Today we will look at a bird most appropriate for Sunday. Today's topic is the dove.
Doves are considered by many to be sacred birds. They are one of the things that the devil can't transform into. Not only is it a symbol of peace it is also a symbol of love. It is the messenger of Venus. To some it is thought to contain the soul of a lover and to kill it would bring misfortune. For Christians it is also the symbol of the holy spirit.
For miners though it is a bad sign. It is considered dangerous to go underground after seeing one near a pit shaft. It is a omen of death to have one tap on the window of a sick person or to fly by their room.
The Pueblos believed the cooing of a dove would bring rain. Other cultures thought the cooing was a sign of mourning and that a soul was passing into heaven in peace.
