Teru Teru Bozu are dolls made of white tissue or cloth and hung in windows. They resemble ghost are used as amulets to bring good weather or to stop rainy weather. Teru is a Japanese verb that describes sunshine. Bozu can refer to a Buddhist monk or bald headed. If it is hung upside down it will bring rain. It is said that if the teru teru bozu does it job you are supposed to soak it's head in sake and float him down a river as a sign of purification. If it doesn't work it is to be discarded.
