In Arab legend they were formed from oysters who were lured from the depths of the ocean by the moon. They then swallowed the moonlit dewdrops. Ancient Chinese legends say they fall from the sky when dragons fought. Hindu brides frequently wear nose rings with pearls to ensure a happy marriage and to guard against widowhood.Greeks thought brides wearing pearls would promote material bliss and keep the newlywed from crying.
