One of my favorite things about Halloween is the bat decorations. I'm one of those people who think bats are cute!
Bats are usually connected with the spirits of the dead. Because of this sometimes they are sacred or beloved but other times they are considered demons or spirits who cannot find rest.
In China the word for bat also means joy. They are connected to filial fidelity and long life. The god of long life is depicted with two bats. In medieval Europe they become familiars of witches and a disguise for the devil. Witches were also said to be able to turn into bats and fly.
