Today I thought be would dive into the realm of mystical creatures and take a look at the Griffin.
Griffins are creatures with the head, wings, and talons of a eagle and the body and hind legs of a lion. Supposedly it is only the females who have wings. Males have various spikes on their bodies instead. It is a mix of the most royal of the birds and the beast. They are said to guard mines of gold and hidden treasures. They are a symbol of valor, strength, vigilance, and perseverance. They are also guardians of the divine and as such are symbols of divine power.
In medieval times griffins were thought to mate for life. If it's partner died it would live the rest of its life alone. It was used to represent the church's views on remarriage. They also believed that it had medicinal properties and that its feathers could cure blindness.
