So I'm still angry at Twilight- in an effort to "get back at" the fairy princess vampires in the books, I went looking for a real vampire movie.
Wow, I found one. And I have to say that I am both thoroughly disturbed and strangely satisfied.
Let the Right One In
It's a Swedish vampire movie on youtube (with subtitles mind you), and it's...weirdly enthralling. It has very dark undertones, and there are some highly inappropriate scenes...but it's still adorable in a creepy way.
It's basically a love story between two 12 year olds, one of which is a vampire. But there's no fluff- she's a cold hard vampire that kills and decapitates her prey. So it's a dark romance, but also very sad. Not because of "forbidden love", but because both characters have to suffer so much.
Yet it's still cute, because they're 12.
There's also alot of gore...alot of gore. So if you like that kind of thing, then all the power to you.
It's just so...interesting. I wouldn't type this journal entry if this movie wasn't seriously freaky- in a strangely good way.
So I'm recommending it. To anyone who likes vampires, gore, romance, tragedy, ambiguity, puzzles, and the dark side of humanity.
The ending is extremely ambiguous- so if you do watch it, I'd love to know what you think 3nodding
(The movie is based on a book- so if you do watch it then it's worth reading a bit of backstory to better understand the movie)
UPDATE: Hollywood is remaking this movie in an America version. I'm thoroughly terrified that they're going to screw it up xp
