Chapter 3
“Garth where are we going?” said a thin young girl with red hair, blindfolded. “We’re almost there, relax.” Said a tall dark skinned boy, the girl was in tan shorts, a dark green thin strap tank top, and thigh high black socks, also black hiking boots. The boy was in a white short sleeve t-shirt and brown knee length shorts also in hiking boots. Garth holding the girls hand leading her swiftly through thick trees and bushes. “If this is a trick Garth, I’ll kick your a**!” Said the girl, Garth laughed helping her over a small stream. “Yeah Jacxie, I just love leaving girls out in the woods to die.” He laughed again; it was deep like his voice. Jacxie stiffened a little and stopped, Garth turned and looked at her and smiled stepping closer to her. “I would never leave you in the woods alone Jacxie you know that.” He cupped the side of her head in his hand gently pushing a bit of her hair out of her blindfolded face, she sigh and whispered. “I know but you know how I get sometimes.” Jacxie gave a small nervous smile, Garth smiles and tugged her hand and lead her through the woods. The two teens turned to the left when they come to a huge oak trunk that had been tipped over. As the two kept going a sound of thunder became clear. “Garth,” Jacxie asked, “What’s that sound?” Garth replied. “You’ll see.”
Then finally the two came to a lake, the shore covered in white sands, the water of the lake a light blue, clear enough to see the bottom. On the far end of the lake was a grand waterfall. “Be careful Jacxie the ground is very louse, here I’ll hold on to you.” Garth griped Jacxie’s small waist. He led her over to a spot above the sand. A small tent was set up along with a fire pit and a small picnic table. Another boy was standing there, his hair was like Jacxie’s, his eyes were the brightest green, he was pale like Jacxie too, he wore a black basket ball jersey, with gray camouflage knee length shorts and like the other teens hiking boots. “Finally took you two long enough, hey Jacxie.” Jacxie stood mouth halfway open. “Anvair, what are you doing here?” “I thought you were working in the shop today?” The boys laughed, and Anviar said. “You think I would work on a day like this, go ahead Garth its time to show her surprise.” Garth nodded smiling and turned and untied the blindfold and removed it from Jacxie’s eyes. Jackie gasped in surprised and looked all around her with a huge smile playing across her face. When she finally turned back to the guys, they were standing side by side each holding a wild flower “HAPPY BRITHDAY JACXIE!” Both boys sang out as they handed her the wild flowers, Jacxie looked on the brink of tears and the boys hugged her tight. “You two are the best!” She said hugging them back, kissing their cheeks. “One flower from each of us.” Anvair stated a blush rising on his face. Jacxie smiled. “I wondered where you two were yesterday; well I guess I know now.” Garth nodded his blush oddly noticeable on his dark skin. “Yep, It took forever to get everything we need out here, Garth had to help me set everything out before he went to get you.” Anvair said as he wiping fake sweat off his face. “And guess what Anviar talk his mom into making your favorite food.” Jacxie jumped up into the air. “Yes, Anviar you mom makes the best food in town!” Garths looked over at the lake his smile suddenly became a little evil and he looked over to Anvair, Anviar saw the smile. “Uh Jacxie I think you better run.” Jacxie looked up at Garth her eyes widening placing the flowers down carefully on the table she began to run. Garth followed. In a minute Garth had grabbed Jacxie and with her screaming threw her into the water. “Garth!” “I’m so going to get you for that.” Jacxie screamed splashing water at him. Garth stuck out his tongue at her and then he felt a tap on his shoulder. “Oh Garth.” Anvair sang out from behind Garth turned quickly and Anviar tackled him into the water on top of Jacxie. The teens laugh splashing and wrestling each other in the cool water.
As the sun got lower Jacxie, Anviar and Garth got out and had changed into dry clothes. “So what we got to eat?” Jacxie asked she looked at the boys who were talking in low voices by the fire pit getting a fire started. She sighed and opened the basket of food and found a container labeled with her name full of warm white rice and pepperoni. “Yummy!” She took the container and a Coca-Cola from the basket and walked over to the fire pit and sat next to the guys who had finally got the fire going. “You guys better get something to eat.” Jacxie opened the warm container and began to eat, after a couple minutes she noticed the guy were staring at her. “What?” She asked. “Is there something on my face?” She touched her face. “No.” “It’s nothing.” Anviar said looking away bushing, Jacxie looked at Garth but his head was down. Jacxie was angry.
“Ok what’s going on, you two are acting weird?” Garth and Anviar looked at each other than at Jacxie, the look on their faces blew out Jacxie’s anger and she remembered. “That’s right, both of you are moving after tomorrow.” Her face grew sad as she looked at the fire her dinner totally forgotten. “It’s not forever you know Jacxie.” Garth started. “Yea Jacxie we’ll see each other again.” Anviar finished, Jacxie looked up at the dark star filled sky’s she was again on the brink of tears but she hid them from her friends. “Yea, I know.” She said quietly. Garth got up “Be right back, k?” He said at Jacxie giving her shoulder a small squeeze before climbing into the tent.
A minute later Garth came back out of the tent two small boxes in red and black wrappings in his hands, he sat down and handed the packages to Jacxie. “More presents?” She asked taking the gifts, Anviar nodded. “Things to remember us by.” Garth said as Jacxie opened the smallest of the packages, Jacxie gasped as she pulled out a dark blue gemmed bracelet, silver trims curved around each of the small gems. “Who?” She asked looking up from the bracelet. “Me.” Garth said as he kissed her cheek Jacxie blushed slightly as she put on the bracelet. Then she picked up the other gift. “So this one’s from you Anviar?” She asked opening it Anvair blushed and nodded. “Oh my god Anviar It’s so beautiful.” Jacxie said as she picked up a necklace, in the middle laid a black sapphire, a Victorian styled heart surrounded the gem. “Help me put in on Anvair?” She handed the smiling Anvair the necklace, Jacxie pulled her hair away from her neck and he put it on sneaking a kiss on her cheek while he did so. Jacxie hug her friends tight. “You two are the bests and only friend I’ve ever had, the only friends that I’ll forever keep with me.” Anviar and Garth hugged the small girl back. “Same here sweetie.” Anviar said.
“Lets make a promise, to meet each other again years from now and come back here.” Garth stated. “Yea, so how should we do it pinky promise or should we do a blood promise?” Jacxie asked looking up at the boys. Anvair pretended to think about it making Jacxie laugh. “Blood?” Anvair said the other two nodded. “But one of us would to have to cut both hands.” Jacxie put in, she sighed. “I’ll be that one I guess.” Jacxie whispered, Anviar sighed. “Forget it we are doing a pinky promise, you wouldn’t have to cut your hands open to make a promise Jacxie.” “That’s right.” Garth put in before Jacxie could argue. “Fine.” Jacxie mumbled. “Put out both your pinkies Jacxie.” Garth told her, she put out both her pinkies to the boys and the wrapped theirs around hers. “Go ahead Jacxie.” Anviar said. Jacxie nodded. “We promise to meet again years from now and come back to this place no matter what, agreed?” “Agreed.” Garth stated. “Agreed.” Anvair nodded. “Well off to bed.” Jacxie stated crawling into the tent the boys crawling in behind her.
The three friends soon fell asleep not knowing that their promise would keep but in a way they never expected.
