Well, we finally finished the 5 weeks of interning at nursing homes for my nursing assistant class. All though I'm quite relieved we're done and excited that we'll be going to the hospital in a few weeks, I'm actually kind of sad that we're done with this part. Towards the end, I was actually starting to like it.
When I first started out, I was a nervous wreck when it came to our first nursing home. It probably wasn't the greatest thing that they started me out in long-term care, which consisted of residents who were there to stay. A lot of them needed help and I usually couldn't understand them. In fact, the CNA I was hanging with put the comment that I was a "a kind, but scared and nervous boy."
But, over the five weeks, I believe I got more confident and better suited for the job. My favorite part had to be while I was doing short-term care with patient's who were in rehabilitation.
I met a lot of nice people, both nurses, residents, and patients, and I don't think I would mind working at a nursing home outside of the actual class. I wouldn't make a career out of it, but until I get my MD, I think I'll enjoy it. 3nodding
