Lewis laid in his bed staring at the ceiling.
Que was next to him, he could hear her coughing every now and then.
"We are leaving for Central tomorrow."
He heard his dad's voice in the living room. Lewis sat up then tiptoed across the room to go and listen in on their conversation.
"But why?" Cal frowned. "We can't afford that many tickets...."
"Who said we were taking the train? You know how deadly those things are." he crossed his arms. "There was an accident yesterday. Not to mention..." he looked towards the kids room. "Do you honestly think we can afford that?"
Calpurnia's eyes sadened at that. "Surely...There is another way...."
"No. We have to. I'm not doing anything else. and you are going through with it, you have no damn choice."
Cal's eyes lowered down. She covered her face and started to cry.
Lewis didn't understand, but knew he was going to be leaving the beach. Central didn't have one. That was for sure. He looked at his new surfboard and let the tears fall. He put a hand back on his head and touched where Brutus had kissed him. If only he was his father. Only then, would he and his sister be able to be happy.
Right now though, he was thinking of a way he could take the board with him. He decided, that was all he was going to bring. Its not very heavy. One change of clothes. Thats all he needed.

(((Switching to first person. Its easier to use))
It was so hot. I remember the scorching sun hitting my skin. I tried my best to block the sun from hitting my little sister and myself, but holding the board above my head was hard. It got so heavy. To this day I hate the fact that my arms grew so weak. My poor little sister. She could barely keep walking. Her eyes were tired, as well as her feet. But that was the least of my worries for her. It was her lungs.
Traveling through the desert was something I hated my father for. Que didn't need to be out here. I couldn't understand why they were going to Central. What couldn't they afford? I mean, If I was able to buy my surfboard, what makes them think I couldn't help pay for whatever they needed? It just didn't make since, but when Que took a turn for the worst, it all made sense.
"Dad! Dad! The sand! Its making her cough again! Theres....Theres blood everywhere!" I'll never forget how hard I cried for her. She was so little. So frail. So sick....I hated her sickness. I hated it so much.
"Leave her Lewis."
"But...But Dad!"
"I said leave her! Why do you think we are going through all of this bullshit?! I can' t afford a cure for her, so the only resort is leaving her behind!"
"Thats...Thats sick! You, You would do this to your daughter?! I would believe it if it was me, but her! Dad! You loved her! She was your favorite!"
"Damn it Lewis, Just leave her behind!"
"NO!"
That was when everything turned black. Dad had whacked me with the back of his hand, knocking me out completly. I'll never forgive myself for falling so easily.
Oh god Que....Please forgive me....
