Week Thirty-Six: Number Nine Wiggety Wham Wham Wozzle! Nine months at Gaia! If "Gaia babies" existed, which I still think never will, I would be having my digital man-baby about now. The First Mimzy Gaia launched its very first movie promotion this week for New Line Cinemas "The Last Mimzy", along with a quest and a promo item. Some users were upset that our very first quest after the New User Quest was a simple "Go-watch-the-trailer" quest, and to be honest, I was a little disappointed too. On the other hand, considering that this gave me a great excuse to work more on the Quest System, and that we had under a week to get it ready, it turned out pretty well. (Although some of us almost lost our minds trying to get it right in such a short period of time) I was asked this week whether or not I thought these promotions were ultimately a good thing or bad thing for Gaia, and I feel pretty strongly that they're a good thing. If we happen to make a few bad MCs in a given month and we don't earn enough to pay for our servers and staff in that period, we now have other sources of income to fall back upon. Which is good, because while I fully endorse the hobo lifestyle, I would much prefer not to have to live it. Triple-Booked: The Trilogy I am writing this at 6:00 in the morning because for the next 6 weeks I'm going to be so busy that I have to write my journal entries in my sleep. I am actually still in my pajamas, sleep-typing this. I'm sure I'll wake up and be pleasantly surprised by the kwality of my werk. I often talk about how hard developers at Gaia work - for example, I e-mailed another dev at 6:00 PM last night with a problem I needed solved when he got in. He sent me the solution at 5:30 AM this morning. I've worked a few weekends, and there are ALWAYS people at HQ giving up their weekends to work on one project or another also. I spent about a month working long hours to get the Valentine's Day event ready, followed quickly by the Gaia 4th Anniversary, followed suddenly by the Last Mimzy Quest. Pretty much for every single week for the next 3 weeks, I have another crazy deadline which I fully intend to meet. C'est la vie of a Gaia programmer! In Memoriam: Fort Gaia Someone left a big pile of boxes in a hallway recently. I passed by it a few times, and on the third time, someone had stacked up the boxes, covered them in toy soldiers, and put up a sign that said "Fort Gaia. est. Mar 3rd, 2007" (or whenever the date actually was - I'm at home, so I can't check what it says). People flew helicopters around it and played with it and it was a standing monument to the awesomeness that is Gaia HQ. Eventually though, the garbage had to go. The sign now reads "Fort Gaia. est. Mar 3rd, 2007 / Destroyed Mar 7th, 2007" Also Yesterday, when I walked in to the office, there was a crowd of people standing around who threw a monkey at me. Don't ask.

	xd heart @ At Fort Gaia. The Randoms moments that everyone has at Gaia HQ never stops give me a good laugh each time. It's nice to know that its possible to have a job and still have fun. (Heeeey~~ Does Gaia hire Biologists? I could try and make y'all a bigger and better G-Virus. Ohohohoho...) (Random Side Note - If losing your mind = Flying dolphins/swimming cows, may I please lose my mind in an equivalent fashion? That is, indeed, some kind of awesome...)

	Is the monkey throwing what inspired this week's comic? Fleep's working on another super awesome/secret project? Ho'boy, more strange guesses as to what it is! surprised You know what Gaia needs? A hobo set. With panhandling signs. I mean sure people can make decent hobo looks now but a hobo set would be cool. At least the signs would be.

	Gaia HQ has a secret entrance in a toilet in the desert! I knew it! If only I could get a plane to drop me off there all the way from England xd You should see if you can convince some people to do what pokemon do. Make like a toilet on the map somewhere, that when clicked takes you to a place where all of the admins and devs are, or some of them, and you can randomly click on them for a random speech thingy, like the stores do biggrin

	O_O;; This entry in particular was pure madness! ^_^;; Heheh. Wiggety Wham Wham Wozzle! "Next thing you know they'll have a drink made from humans" "They already have that" "How does it taste?" "It varies from person to person". More work to do?! gonk Gah! How do you pull of coding when you are not feeling well?! That is like the hardest thing to do, ever >_> All these events and all this work you guys have been doing. Lemme tell ya I'm happy about it, actually. It'd be nice if Gaia had more employees and people that could help you lighten the work load (I hear Lanzer was going completely insane before Craig joined up on Gaia), but these new features and activity on Gaia has been really fun! I completely don't understand the entire Fort Gaia reference. Oh dear. There's a movie I must have missed. o_o;; They threw a monkey at you? It was your idea for the weekly comic about Lanzer, wasn't it!!!

	Yikes. I hope you do manage to get enough sleep. Sleep is important, especially with that nasty flu virus that's been going around! Does anyone have piccys of Fort Gaia? That would totally rock. I keep envisioning the Gaia Boxes from the Faktori--you know, the makeshift table/chairs--as the boxes making up Fort Gaia's construction. xd Too bad we can't stack Makeshift Tables. >.<

	Since I couldn't find it in the forums... Will there be a St. Patrick's Day Event? I hope so. I'll try and do a check in the tagged topic search again. I don't think small events like this need to be greatly detailed. Something on the scale of Valentine's Day is just fine for holidays and events like this. Of course people want more, but I'd rather have quality small events than out of control large ones. And I thought the Mimsy quest was fine. I wasn't happy that I had to watch an entire video on my dial up but it is a good start, and if it helped you finesse the quest system then kudos on that. Personally, I'd rather have more detailed quests that have nothing to do with advertising sponsorships. But maybe that's just me. Keep up the good work and know for every grouchy grumpy gut, there are 5 others who love what you do.

I didn't really enjoy the quest too much, kinda boreing, but the plushies are just... @3@ People always seem to forget how hard devs work. :/ You guys are completely amazing! heart Yay gaia HQ. 	Ganbare Fleep-san~ (Studying japanese now, I want to throw it around a little) But really, keep up the good work and keep up your strength. The devs do a fantastic job and the site would be in shambles without you! Literally. You guys help keep the website going as smoothly as possible and I dont think many people appreciate that. : ( This entry about mimzy puts a lot of things to rest. People tend to think Gaia is a superpowerhouse of money, and that simply isnt true. Helping out a smaller site and knowing the innerworkings of paying for servers and whatnot first hand, I know these things are so incredibly expensive, and that site is quite a bit smaller than Gaia, and doesnt have as many people who need to be paid. Just because your worth millions doesnt mean you have millions to throw around.

((ah outbreak...I loved that movie >< wink ) Personally, I feel the promotions are an awesome thing. It shows how much Gaia has grown and helps it keep growing...but only promote good things. Or I'll poison the next batch of cookies I send you waggles finger....wait..Did you guys get the cookies I sent yet? ....It's things like that fort that make me wanna visit Gaia HQ. You guys should do a Charlie in the chocolate factory thing and send out some golden tickets with sealeds. That would be freakin sweet.

	Too much Futurama for youu. I can no longer watch this Ambrosia of comedy because of the stupid, childish fight between Virigin and Sky. Basically, Virign took over NTL, then Sky said that Virgin are richer, so they want more money. They said no, and it was denied service on all NTL boxes. Brill. Not only that, both companies are sending out childish propaganda. Dunno if you Yankies have the same problem, with your TiVo and your PS3s...

	Haha... a ZIM screencap. You really need to take pictures of these things, Fleep. sad Reminds me of when my brother and I built a fort out of Girl Scout cookie boxes. Not just the regular boxes, but the boxes that held these boxes. For some reason, our house was being used to hold all the cookies before they could be given to those who ordered them.

	I'm glad you don't think there will ever be "Gaia Babies." That's one less thing for us to stay up losing sleep over. Speaking of sleep, get some. Lack of REM sleep makes people wonky. I enjoyed the Mimzy quest, yeah it was kind of easy. But how would you have made it harder? I also think that the New Line Cinema partnership is a great idea. Especially, as you point out, if there are months with sucky MC revenue it gives you something to fall back on. ...IS that why you guys went with the NLC deal? Cause the last few months haven't been spectacular IMO except for the Winter Rose, Elemental Hair, Gift of the Goddess, and maybe the Celestial Wrap (but not that spectacular) and I've been wondering if it's resulted in a downwards MC revenue.

	A monkey? O_o Life at Gaia's HQ sounds dangerous fun! Anyway, I'm back from an interesting trip to the US- it's a nice country 3nodding I have a friend who hates the idea of Gaia doing movie promotions for other companies, and I can understand why he feels like that, but I understand too why it can be a very good thing =D I just... would hate it if Gaia got bought by some important company gonk
