I spent most of the last weekend at the movie theater. I gotta say, for all this talk about the "movie theater experience" being so superior to the other forms of movie watching, there are certainly a lot of drawbacks. The main one being of course: people. Granted, I'm one of those people that are all for going to movies, mainly because I'm bored and really want to see some of these movies on opening day. Still, on all three occassions this weekend, there was someone or something that managed to muck it all up.
The first time was fairly decent, probably because it was the first time seeing the movie so I was more interested in it than the crowd. About the only complaint here is that people, assumingly the hardcore Bond fans would cheer and clap during the token Bond events. The Martinin, the Tux, etc. Annoying, but manageable.
The second time was a bit worse. First the sound was up a bit too loud, but that was alright as long as you could hear things clearly. There was a baby that made noises, but stopped somewhat shortly after. But near the end I noticed the blue blinking light of some dude's Blue Tooth in one of the front rows. It was distracting, but I finally hunched down in my seat so I couldn't see it blink. annoying, but still manageable
The third time, however, caused me to loose all faith in humanity. First of all, there was something weird with the sound, there was a horrible echo and some speakers didn't seem to be working so the diaolgue was really low. But the worst part was by far the group of idiots to our far right. Almost as soon as the movie start, these inconsiderate morons start talking amongst themselves. People around shushing them only seem to encourage them further. It gets so bad, that finally a member of the audience, having told one girl to blatently shut up, actually gets up in open confrontation after she refuses. There was almost a fist fight right there in the theater. Some other guy ended up getting him to sit back down. I had had enough and went to talk to a cop who only posted a few of the employees to scout out the situation. Either because of that, or the confrontation, the girl got a bit smarter. From then on she wouldn't talk continously but instead would start laughing in a very assinine manner a few seconds after a joke or bit of comedy, completely ruining the mood.
So yeah, a few points lost for the movie experience. But on a lighter note, I look forward to making the most of the 5-day weekend that starts tomorrow, huzzah
