Evening Star 2
Continuation from Evening Star! Little more action toward the end of this one. I'll write more later!!

The hawk moved forward a little to be hit by a wave of dizziness. He began to fall over when the girl’s hand caught him.

“How unthoughtful of me,” she scolded herself out loud. “You haven’t eaten in a day! Let me get some food. You just sit right there.” She set the hawk down in the nest and made sure he was steady before going to one of the bundles she carried in.

The hawk noted that the bundles held meat. The girl took some meat and brought it over to a cutting board. When she began to chop the meat up, she began to hum. The hawk listened as the entrancing humming filled the room. The hawk felt a wave of emotions from the sound. Of happiness at first, than of pained sadness. That feeling was too small, though, for the hawk to realize at the time.

“Lunch is served!” Hesper exclaimed as she whirled around, smiling. Her hands held a bowl of chopped-up meat. They were in cube shape and fairly small in size.

She walked over to the table and sat in front of the hawk. She was about to grab a piece of meat when she stopped. Then she looked at the hawk and said in a mock stern voice, “I don’t want any nipping or clawing from you. I don’t want any scratches. I’m here to feed you, but I won’t stand for any of your quirks. I can tell you for certain that you are in no condition to feed yourself.”

The hawk looked at her wide eyed through the lecture. Then he nodded at the end. Hesper smiled, happy that the hawk seemed to agree.

She took a piece of meat and put it near the bird’s sharp beak. The hawk slowly opened its mouth and grabbed it. Then it swallowed it. The hawk was so happy to actually have food after so long!

Hesper continued to feed the hawk until the meat was all gone. She seemed surprised when the bowl was empty.

“Oh my! It looks like we’re finished,” she said and got up. She walked over to the kitchen and put the bowl in a tub. Then she began to prepare her own lunch.

The hawk just sat there, well fed. He watched the girl make a sandwich for herself. When she had finished, she began to walk toward a door. Not the one to outside, but to the other one. Then she remembered the hawk.

“Mr. Hawk, I’ll be eating in here,” she indicated to the door. “I’ll be back in a bit to redo your bandage. Shriek if you need me!”

She closed the door behind her, leaving the hawk in an awkward silence. The hawk was confused on many parts. He began to think of all the odd things that he had believed to play out. When the boy was there, he seemed to not notice the hawk. It could mean that the boy saw injured animals in the girl’s home all the time, or he seriously didn’t see the hawk. It seemed likely because who goes near an injured animal and slams a package in from of it?

Than the hawk found it odd that he was getting such hospitality. This was only because he had never been given this much kindness in a long time. It was odd, to him, that the girl went into the other room to eat. This shouldn’t have seemed odd, but it was to the bird.

The hawk suddenly felt very tired. Its body need rest, but the hawk was too stubborn to fall asleep. He wanted to get out of the house. He had been unconscious for a full day! He was running away and already his small lead (if he even had one), was probably not there anymore.

Than a thought struck him. Why wasn’t he found yet? Have they not found him? Did they miss him somehow? How would that be possible?

“You’re an odd bird.”

The hawk swore it jumped ten feet just then. Right in front of him was Hesper, a hand under her chin and an elbow on the table. The hawk didn’t know how she got there without him noticing. He could only stare in stunned confusing at the stealthy girl.

Hesper had an odd look on her face. It looked like she was thinking. Hard. The hawk felt as though she was looking straight through him. She didn’t blink at all. Her eyes looked straight into the hawk’s. Fear rose in the hawk’s whole body, but he couldn’t pull away. Hesper’s gaze held him.

Then she blinked. She looked around, dazed. Then she closed her eyes and shook and rubbed her head as though she had a headache.

“Ouch,” she finally said without opening her eyes. She laid her head back and breathed in counted breathes. Opening her eyes, she turned back to the hawk.

“You’re under an enchantment, aren’t you?” Hesper asked, eyes locked on the bird. The hawk was so startled by her odd behavior before that this question caught him more off guard. He stumbled back a little.

The hawk’s senses were all alert. If this girl knew he was under an enchantment, there could be trouble. She could put a counter spell on him, of course, but she could also use the curse he was fleeing from. It was enough trouble being changed, more to lose your free will.

The cursed hawk jumped out of the nest onto the back of a chair. Hesper was startled by the movement. Before she could grab the hawk, he jumped to the nearest windowsill. He soon was outside on a tree branch.

The hawk tried his hardest to jump from branch to branch. He heard the door slam behind him as Hesper gave chase. The hawk tried to glide with his good wing, bit it just helped to give him an awkward leap.

“Stop!” Hesper cried from below. She was looking up at him as she ran. A few times she stumbled, but regained her balance, in the chase.

“You mustn’t fly away! I can help you!” she exclaimed. The hawk doubted that though. He now saw she was a witch of sorts. He had grown to despise witches and wizards. That explains why the boy hadn’t seen him, he thought. She put some invisible spell on him.

Then the hawk’s senses shrieked with familiar danger. The wizard that put the curse on him was near!

Suddenly a cry of a large bird of prey on a hunt pierced the air. The hawk looked up to find the black eagle that had attacked him earlier, and it was about to again.

With another war cry, the great eagle dived toward the injured hawk. The hawk instinctively dodged out of the way, and missed the branch he was jumping to. He fell down out of the tree cover yet again.

Hesper caught him before he hit the ground. She began to turn around to run back to he house. The eagle had other plans. It swooped again, head-on towards Hesper.
