I was trapped in a room in which hung a plaque of a cat. A small opening in the ceiling provided a dim light. The outline of a door could be seen against a far wall, though no handle or apparent method of access could be seen. How did I end up here? Surrounding the plaque were colored tiles that seemed not to have any pattern to them. Red, blue, yellow, violet, silver, gold…Engraved on the plaque were the words ”Reminiscing Before Your Guile, Vividly Remembering Your Bemusing Smile.” What could that possibly mean? Was it a riddle, or perhaps a code of sorts? This didn’t help me at all!
The door refused to budge, no matter what I tried. In my frustration, I sighed heavily and leaned against the wall holding the plaque. To my surprise, I felt the spot sink back slightly. Turning around to see what had happened, the red tile had been depressed, causing it to glow. Before I could comprehend what had occurred, the tile’s glow faded and it returned to normal. Was this tied into something of use? My eyes fell back on what was written on the plaque. ”Remembering…” The answer seemed to be on the tip of my tongue, but I couldn’t quite put the pieces together.
The eyes of the cat appeared to focus their gaze upon me as I paced back and forth, confusion filling my being. The tiles must have something to do with the engraving, but what? I repeated the words over again in my head. ”Reminiscing Before Your Guile, Vividly Remembering Your Bemusing Smile.” Reminiscing…Red…There was no connection I could see! Was it so complicated that I would not be able to understand? Was it so simple that I was overlooking it? I experimented with pressing in the other tiles, and they behaved the same way. Perhaps there was a certain order I needed to push them in? Wait…The tiles and the saying were tied together! I understand now! I pushed the tiles in sequence according to the engraving, and sure enough the door slid open slowly. As I entered through, the door shut behind me quickly. I don’t like it in here. I can’t see anything!
…Why do I hear a heartbeat?
