I don't think that anyone would have changed their opinion so quick, had J.K not announced he was indeed homo.
Does it really matter ? Most of the homophobes would claim that such great wizards ( for instance, Gandolf, Merlin, falala ) wouldn't have any type of earth/human like interests, which would clearly draw the line between wizardry missions and physical matters like sexuality.

The article writer, himself, admitted him to be such a great wizard-
so why flame the fact he's gay ? He says just because J.K says he is,
