Walking into the new town that belongs to the thirstys I begin to shutter a little knowing the place all too well. I’ve come to realize that I’m now standing within the city limits of my old mortal home town. Looking over my shoulder to Sean I can feel that he’s just as uneasy about the matter as I am. Of course he’s the only one that knows and is going to know. I can’t believe I didn’t see such a thing when I was a mortal. I was so blind by human values that we let them live right under our noses. This would explain all the crime that this city had. That and all the dark shadows that seemed to lurk while you walked the streets at night. I was rather glad that I wasn’t taken away with them now that I know what they were.
My hands found themselves shoved in my pockets as I strolled down the once familiar streets. It’s only been 2 months that I’ve been away but they feel so distant to me. I tried leading the pack away from my old high school along with my once proud little home. I didn’t need people to recognize me. Everyone had thought that I had gone missing like many people have around the town. I would guess there was a search party out for me within the first week. That’s all that it really was. If you didn’t show up in that week then everyone figured that you were dead just like the rest.
I felt a small nudge to my arm and looked over. Sean looked a little white in the face as he read my thoughts. I felt a little bad for the kid to be honest. We had started to get a stronger bond then I was hoping for. Now even in my mortal form he could tell what my thoughts were. There was no way that I could keep anything from him. That made a few things odd. It was nice though when I started to think about her. He would snap at me in some form to get my mind off of it. Soon I found myself thinking less and less of her on our walk to the town. Now that we were back in it and their scent lingered heavily in the air I couldn’t stop it. From the look on his face I was thinking of a few things that either wasn’t right or were sickening. Either way they both fell under the same category in the end.
“Sorry,” I sighed as I brushed my fingers through my long fading black hair. I hadn’t dyed it since I ran away so the natural red of mine was starting to peek through. My eyes laid on his for a moment before I stopped the group and began to think over what was the best course of action. The elders were no longer with the group and had placed me in charge, go figure. It seems that the stench of the thirstys was stronger to their noses and was enough to make them fall over and die. Apparently it’s ‘airborne poison,’ as they called it. When I heard that I just rolled my eyes and stuck my nose to the air. Sure it wasn’t the greatest smell in the world, Sean threw up when it took too deep of a breath in, but it wasn’t going to kill us. Drama Queens.
After a while of thinking and the typical, lets b***h about it, fight between me and the rest of the pack it was finally decided as to where we would stay. Towards the outskirts of town a small cemetery was tucked away and hardly visited. It was decided that not only was it safe away from those that were unholy, we’re still not sure whether that’s fully true or not, and we’re far enough away from the stench. I liked it more for the scene then anything. I use to chill with my buddies up at the cemetery. That was back when we took cameras and played Ghost Hunters.
Getting to the cemetery everyone gawked at it a little. It was as if they had never seen anything like it before. Though this was one of the older cemeteries. Tomb stones covered the ground making cement mazes to walk through. There was statues of crosses while a giant statue of an angel weeping over a grave sat in the middle. There was small make shift mausoleums here and there where richer families were stored away for their long slumber. I had forgotten how wonderful it looked in the day time. I guess there was a reason for the pack to gawk. Not like they were though. I would say that they lived in holes but that’s more or less what the dead people around here were doing. Well besides the living part anyways. The rest was true though.
Walking up to the giant rusting iron gate that was wrapped around the cemetery I noticed that the chain and lock was still broken from my last little adventure in here. Removing the chain it clanked against the iron of the gate. Soon it was to the floor and I gently pushed against the gate to open it. There was a loud creek and you could almost feel the death wrap around you as it escaped. Everyone took a step back and looked at me with wide eyes and white faces. I guess it was one thing to rip a vampires head off but quiet another to make base in a place full of dead people. Guessing from the cross around one of the elders neck I was assuming this was a sin. Word around the werewolf world is that the thirstys don’t have souls. They’re bound straight to hell like they should be.
“Oh come on! I thought that we agreed this would be ok!” I huffed and looked at the pack with worn out eyes. I could understand where they were coming from so I wasn’t going to be a d**k about it. But honestly they should have spoken up about it before I got us to the damn place. Among the pack there was a few whispers then a shove of Sam to the front of them to speak up. Seems that he was more then happy to talk on their behalf against me. “Yeah well it seems that they don’t agree now. If you were a good alpha you would honor your pack and listen to what they have to say,” He grinned and was overly pleased with himself. I could feel my blood boil as I wanted to rip the smirk off this lips.
“Fine then we’ll go back to the city. We’ll get a hotel or some stupid s**t like that. I don’t want to hear a word about the smell though.” My tone was a little harsh when it was directed to the pack. At least my answer was to them. My tone and death glare was to Sam. I could feel the power pulse in my veins and in his eyes I watched him struggle against my power. He was frantically searching internally for a way to not give into me and step back into line among the pack. Soon I won the battle as we were walking the streets again. I could hear him cursing my name under his breath. At least it brought me joy. He could hate me all he wanted.
When we finally got to the hotel the sun was starting to set outside. I couldn’t believe all the time that we had wasted. Walking up to the front desk I hadn’t realized that we all looked like we had walked out of the 1920’s with some dust bowl effect to ourselves. Dirty was an understatement as to our appearance. The man behind the counter looked us up and down with distaste before shaking off the look and giving me a fake smile, “Can I help you?” His voice was a little horsed and getting closer I noticed that he was red in the face. He didn’t seem mad or anything, just some people have that color to their skin. It gave me the creeps. “Yeah I need….” pausing I looked over my shoulder to see just how many people were in our pack. I hadn’t really bothered counting before but I knew it was a lot. “Umm…” counting over everyone I found 23 not including myself. “We better have room mates, 4 to a room sounds fair enough.” I turned back around to the red faced man and gave him one of my priceless smiles. “6 rooms please, all near each other if you don’t mind.” The man’s eyes boggled a little as he heard the number. We all walked in together so I didn’t understand why it was that shocking. Clearing my thought I tried pulling up more of a sly facial expression while I slipped my wallet out from my back pants pocket. “We’ll pay well,” I couldn’t help but pull the cheese eye brow shift of temptation along with a childish grin. The man started to chuckle and turned around to a wall full of keys with key chains attached to them. He pulled down 6 of them that had numbers close to each other. He then walked around the counter and started to show us to our rooms. While following him I began to wonder if the guy was Santa in street clothes and shaved.
Saying I got lucky when it came to having roommates was an understatement. People began to pair up on the way to the rooms. In the end it seemed that Sam and his little lackey Mathew were paired up with Sean and I. Growling Sam snapped and insisted that he got his own room. The owner of the hotel wasn’t about to protest as Sam began to whip out his wallet and said that there was no price he wasn’t will to pay in order to get his arrangement. That meant that Sean and I would be teaming up. As we walked into our room we stopped in the door way and watched Sam trip down a set of stairs. Mathew was hot on his heels to try and stop him. It was like watching a cartoon only this was a thousand times funnier because someone really got hurt.
Closing the door behind us Sean ran over to the bed that he was going to claim as his. He was laying down on it already and was starting to rub his feet from the long walk. I on the other hand was scoping out the shower. I couldn’t stand one more minute of being a dirt ball. There was soon the sound of running water and the door being closed. After about a half an hour of annoyed scrubbing and rinsing I was finally nice smelling and clean. Sadly the dirt was the only tan that I really had and I was reminded of how badly I needed a real one. As soon as I was out of the bathroom Sean bolted in behind me. Laying on his bed was about 10 water bottles and I was guessing he really had to take a piss. I would have just gone in the bottles. Why bother waiting?
Walking over to my bed I looked over my backpack I had with me. Most of my clothes were dirty and needed to be clean as well. I remember there was a laundry room down stairs that was open to the public. Looked like I was towel bound for a while. Grabbing the bag I knocked on the door to the bathroom and told Sean where I was going. Before he could ask me to clean his clothes I was heading down to the main floor. While walking down the halls I felt everyone’s eyes on me as I walked by. There was no way that they hadn’t seen a teenage boy half naked. I mean it was as if I didn’t even have the towel around my waist. On the other hand though werewolves were blessed with being ripped beyond all compare in our mortal forms. Walking by a blonde girl I noticed her jaw drop and then hear a thud as she walked into a wall. I couldn’t help but chuckle as I rounded a corner and was now in the laundry room.
I had forgotten how much of a b***h doing laundry was. The only upside to all of it was that I had shrank all of my shirts and now they fit snug to my body. I’m sure that the blonde would drool over that. Laughing I slipped on a clean pair of boxers along with some jeans and a pair of socks. Carrying my clothes I headed back to the room only to find Sean channel surfing on the tiny a** tv we had in the room. His hand was shoved in a cheetos bag while he chugged a soda. Meanwhile the pile of trash on his bed was starting to get bigger. Go figure it was all snack food wrappers. “Dear god! And I thought I was and endless pit!” Sniffling the air I smelt a box of pizza. I quickly crossed the room and began to chow down eating the whole thing myself. I didn’t feel as bad seeing how there was an empty box under the one I had just created. As I stuffed my face Sean was laughing from his bed over my comment. Looking over at him he tossed me a soda and soon I was laying on my bed chugging away at my drink. I had forgotten what good food tasted like. Hunting just wasn’t the same.
“Yeah well when you’re a werewolf that’s just kind of the way that it goes. You would think that an alpha would know that,” Sean grinned and felt a little mighty about his comment. “I mean hell if we were at the cemetery right now god only knows what the hell we would be eating. I’m sorry man but Zombie isn’t on the list of things I don’t mind inhaling.” Sean then shoved a hand full of cheetos into his mouth. His hands were coated in the fake cheese. “I think I’d be more worried about the Zombies eating you then I would you eating them,” Grinning I went back to my resident evil days and thought of a Zombie Apocalypse. Looking over Sean’s eyes were wide and a few cheetos fell from his mouth as he looked horrified. “Oh for the love of god they’re not really going to eat you,” laughing I got to my feet and grabbed a shirt before throwing it on. “If you don’t believe me then come to the cemetery with me,” I then shoved the rest of my clothes into my clean bag and placed it on my bed. Looking around I found my shoes and slipped them on before pocketing the room key.
“The ******** I’m going there,” He answered while picking up the fallen cheetos and eating them. Shrugging I just walked to the door and held the peace symbol over my head as I headed out, “Peace,” I called over my shoulder to him as the door closed and I began to make my way to the main floor. Looking out the window I noticed that it was night fall. The cemetery was going to be just like old times…
