Time passed and eventually the rocking of the boat grew steady, and the violence had ended. Tentatively, I climbed out from below and looked at my surroundings. The boat was destroyed there was no way it could be used again.
I also became aware of the fact that I was on an island. I went by the boat to see if any of my limited food supply was there. Unfortunately, it had been washed away. I sat for a while, trying to make a fire with two sticks, but eventually hunger got the best of me. I decided to scour the island for food and possibly see if there was any other life here.
I walked around finding little food. A few berries here and there, but not much. Eventually, after my feet had grown sore I came across a cave. I entered it, and it was the perfect shelter. Gathering fallen leaves, I made a makeshift bed. I laid down, only to feel something hard protruding. I dug around for a bit and found the unknown object. It was some sort of lamp. The sort that genies lived in. At the moment, the only thing on my mind was sleep. I set it down and rested my weary eyes.
The next morning when I awoke I was scared witless. I had completely forgotten everything. I stood up and looked around. I realized what had happened and sighed. I started to head towards the entrance, but on my way there I stepped on the lamp. Picking it up, I wondered if maybe the tales where true. Hesitantly, I rubbed the lamp and closed my eyes for good luck. I opened one eye and before me was a genie. I was astounded, I had never believed that they existed. “Hello, My name is Oryissa, I am the genie whom you have freed. You have three wishes to do with whatever you like. I am bound here until those wishes are used.” she said. I gawked at her. “Are you for real?” I stammered. She reached out and touched me. “Yes, I’m real” she said. “So, what are you three wishes?” “Umm, I’m not sure yet.” I thought about it for a second. “I wish for an unlimited food source.” “Granted.” she responded. “You have two wishes left.” “I wish for an impenetrable shelter.” I requested. “Granted. You have one wish left.” she said.
I thought long and hard about it. Regardless, I didn’t want to leave this island, it was comforting and familiar somehow. “I would like to clarify something.” She gave me a questioning glance. “If I don’t use the last wish, you’ll be stuck here with me right?” I asked. She nodded in reply. “If that’s the case I’d like to not use my last wish and keep you here for company, is that all right?” I asked. She sighed then nodded. “Only if you promise to be kind and to not threaten me, my previous mistresses haven’t been very kind.”
So, from that day forth Oryissa the genie and I have been living on this island by ourselves, waiting for another stormy day.
The End.
