Chapter 2 (the letters)
As G.M.A thrust his sword towards me Quest jumped in the way making the sword pierced his body. Quest stood there with the sword in his left lung. His white clothes almost drenched in blood. I looked up with tears in my eyes to see Quest trying to protect me.
“Shadow. UGH! G-Get out of here. NOW!!” Quest said holding his side where the sword went in and coughing up blood. I didn’t run or move. I just stood there looking with terror in my eyes. “NAOE GET SHADOW OUT OF HERE!” Naoe nodded and grabbed me by the hand and started to run.
“NO YOU IDIOT! YOU'RE LETTING THE TRAITOR GET AWAY! EVERYONE GET HER NOW!” G.M.A shouted trying to push Quest out of the way. Quest pushed G.M.A aside with the last of his strength but still standing strong.
“G.M.A you’re suspended from your level of command.” Quest said. G.M.A growled and stabbed Quest one more time in the stomach. “Mere force will not change my mind G.M.A …” Quest said as his mask fell of revealing red demon eyes. G.M.A pulled his sword out of Quest and ran off looking for me.
With Naoe and Shadow:
“Shadow hurry up before G.M.A catches up with us.” Naoe running still panting. I didn’t say anything and slowed to a stop. I fell to my knees and cried softly so no one could hear. “Shadow…” Naoe hugged me trying to get me to stop crying. “Shadow its ok. Quest can handle himself.” I still said nothing and stopped crying. I finally got up and started to walk away.
“I… I hope your right Naoe…” I said before disappearing in the distance. After I disappeared I wasn’t heard from for four weeks. During that time Quest survived his wounds and could walk again. G.M.A calmed down enough to help look for me in the forest. Naoe kept in touch with me through the letters we exchanged every day.
Also Shira advanced to my level in the new organization to try to replace me. When I finally returned from the depths of the forest I had changed dramatically from shy girl to the toughest girl in the block. When everyone came to greet me, they knew something about me had changed in the last few weeks.
“Shadow? Is that you? You have changed quite a bit.” Quest said as I walked past him. I glared not saying anything. “Um. Ok then move along.” I looked in front of me and kept walking.
“Shadow! Your back!” Shira shouted jumping at me trying to hug me. I put my hand forward stopping her and looking at her with stone cold eyes. “Uh shadow. Why don’t you let me hug you? We always do it when we see each other.” She pretended to cry.
“Things… change…” I replied in a soft voice. Everyone looked at me as if something had hit me on the head. My voice had changed and so did my personality.
“Shadow. What’s wrong with you? Before G.M.A attacked you, you were all happy and cheerful now you’re… you’re the complete opposite of what you once were.” Naoe said looking at me like he had seen a ghost.
“Everyone here turned on me. What did you expect?” I said not looking at him. I continued walking until G.M.A stepped in front of me.
“I’m surprised you came back, Shadow.” G.M.A said looking down at me. “Welcome back.”
“Don’t think I forgotten what you tried to do to me, G.M.A.” I said quietly making myself heard only to him. He stepped out of my way with a concerned look on his face.
“What is wrong with her?” He whispered to Quest.
“I don’t know it seems like she changed herself and it worked too well.” Quest whispered back.
“I wonder why she said, ‘don’t think I've forgotten what you tried to do to me’.”
“Well, you did try to kill her.” Quest sighed. G.M.A walked inside right behind me along with everyone else.
“Hey, Quest, Shadow sent me some letters of where she could be found but she told me not to show them to you until she returns.” Naoe said handing them to him. Quest took them and read them aloud.
Letter 1:
Dear Naoe Sanada,
I have been training in the woods 3 miles from there. I hope when I come back everything will be the same as it used to be. Don’t tell Quest about these letters or he might intrerrupt my training.
~Shadow
Letter 2:
Dear Naoe Sanada,
Training has been going well for me since I left. So don’t be surprised if I come back different. I am in a small town 4 miles from there. If you want to you can come and visit. But don’t tell Quest where you are going if you do come.
~Shadow
Letter 3:
Naoe,
I’m sorry I have been taking so long with my training. If you want to come with Quest to see me then go to a small forest just 6 miles from there.
~Shadow
“You should have told me about these sooner.” Quest said not reading the rest.
“She told me not to. Plus she needed time to be on her own before returning here.” Naoe replied. I walked over to them with one last letter and handed it to Quest.
“Hm? What’s this.” Quest read it aloud.
Dear Quest,
I’m sorry I haven’t sent you anything in the past 4 weeks. I wish I could have helped with your wounds but it looks like you didn’t need any help. But anyway. This could be my final hour. When I was training I sent Naoe clues of what was going to happen. Now that I am back it might be to late. I’m sorry if I caused any trouble.
Your friend and dying breed,
Shadow
“Your friend and dying breed, Shadow.” Quest said putting down his letter and grabbing The other letters from Naoe. He looked at each number and pulled out a map. He marked each place it said on the map. “Oh no.” He connected each dot and looked at it with terror. The map had the symbol of death on it.
“Death. She is going to die!” Naoe and Quest ran up to my room to see the window was open and I was walking towards an old stone table in a small shrine. It was clear to them I was in a trance. They followed me to the stone table and watched as I kneeled in front of a man with white hair and dark gray eyes with a flaming sword.
“This is your final death shadow. Any last words?” The man said.
“Yes. Quest, Naoe I know you’re there and…. I’m sorry I betrayed you…” I said with ice tear rolling down my face. It was dead silent as Quest and Naoe came out of hiding. The man chanted something and lifted his sword.
The chant sounded like this:
All gods of the heavens come,
Kill the traitor for her wish to die is true,
She will forever be still in the slants of hell!
COME DOWN AND HELP ME KILL THIS TRAITOR!!
I beam of light shone on me and I was lifted in the air by what seemed to be the five elements. As the man with white hair and grey eyes struck my body a glint of fear, pain and sorrow came into my eyes and I fell to the cold hard ground. The man left as Quest, Naoe, and G.M.A came up to me. They turned me onto my back and put a seal in my hands that said "Heaven".
They began to chant:
"Heaven help this one find her way,
She has done nothing wrong,
She wishes to be with her family forever more,
Help her with internal life."
The five gods once again came and lifted me up into the sky until I disappeared. When I came down the scroll had disappeared and I had begun to breathe once more. Quest picked me up and headed back to the base. When I woke up, I could hardly see.
“Uh. Where am I?” I said looking around. Everything was a light gray color. I took off whatever was blocking my view. “Huh. A mask.” It wasn’t just any mask. It was Quest’s old mask. I got up and went to Quest's room. I saw a letter on his bed that was addressed to everyone in the new organization. I found his keys and they had a note on them.
The note said:
"Shadow, if you find these, then you are the new owner of the new organization. I want you to take good care of the clan. When I return You will still be in charge. I am not sure if I will return or not but if and when I do, I will be under your command. Be careful, be safe, and don’t over use your power."
~Quest.
I quickly ran to the speaker and announced I was the new leader by reading it out loud. When I got to my office I didn’t know what to do with all the power I had.
To Be Continued.
