Today Tiegen's dad took Tiegen and I into D.C. Tiegen went to D.C. on Friday with a different friend, so we didn't have any problems figuring were things were today. Thankfully! Although we did accidentally walk past things sometimes...We're both very unobservant.

First, we went to the National Gallery--for the bazillionth time for both of us. But the great thing about the National Gallery is that you see something new each time. We went into the impressionists galleries and looked at some amazing things by Monet and Manet and then Tiegen told me how much she hates Cezanne. I have to admit, his broad brushstrokes are pretty sloppy-looking. He had one or two nice paintings, but most of them looked like a 5 year old made it. And we made fun of most of the modern art because most of it isn't very good. One of the security guards even chimed in! He was awesome. Then we saw two sculptures next to each other of children trying to talk to each other through seashells as if they were kind of like phones. One had it against his ear and he was smiling and the other looked like an idiot with the seashell on his head. We both posed in front of them, me being the smiley one and Tiegen being the stupid one. It was great. xd

Then we went to lunch and Tiegen's dad thankfully took me to a place that had pizza because I told him that I was really picky and mostly enjoyed Italian food. He said the next time I come in to D.C. with Tiegen, he'd fine a nice Italian restaurant, hopefully an authentic one.

Afterward, Tiegen and I went to the Newseum and it was freaking awesome! The daily front pages were great and all of the exhibits we saw were just plain amazing. We didn't get to see everything because it closed at 5 (grrr, overcharging us AND kicking us out early!). The 9/11 exhibit made us cry because the video was really emotional. I was choking back tears when it was talking about how as a journalist and as a professional, you're not supposed to show your emotions when reporting, but it was just so terrifying and dreadful, they couldn't help but start crying while recording what was happening. One reporter asked a woman what happened and she said a few sentences and then broke down crying and the reporter said he was sorry and choked over his words and gave her a hug. It was really sad. Tiegen was like, "Geez! I can't believe you want to get into this area of work!"

I also got a shirt from the Newseum store that says "Trust me...I'm a reporter." The next time I go back I want a "News Junkie" or "Got News?" shirt.
