She raised her aching body from the blood soaked floor, determined to win this fight. She stepped forward stumbling and falling flat on her face. This time she couldn’t get up, couldn’t raise even a finger against this shadowy figure. She was fighting a losing battle and she knew it. Her energy slowly leaking from her tired form, all she could do is listen, listen to the faint sound of heavy footsteps inch ever so slowly towards her. This shadow of a man had promised her freedom, and she greedily took it. If only she had stopped to think about it. If only she had declined. Everything has a price, she knew this, but she had forgotten freedom held a higher price. One higher then she was willing to give. Stupid, stupid, stupid, she chanted to herself over and over again.

He was close now. She could feel it. She could feel his cold, rotten breath breathing down her neck as if he was going to eat her, and she suddenly didn’t want to be free. She had too much going for her. A loving family back home waiting for her return, a nice warm bed that called her name, two best friends that would do anything for her, and… god, she felt so worthless. Why? Why didn’t she see it. Sure, at first glance, it wasn’t much, but it was her life. It may be boring yet at the same time dangerous, but it was still her life. She could make it what ever she wanted. God, why didn’t she see this sooner?

She thought back how her little brother always threw a fit when he didn’t get his way. He’d stomp away with that cute pouty face the younger siblings always made. At the time she thought it was annoying, stupid, and it made her mad, but now she wanted to smile. Her younger brother looked up to her in his own way. He wanted to be like her, and look at her now. Covered in mud and blood, leaves stuck in her hair, she felt ashamed. If her little brother saw her like this he’d freak, he’d loose all respect for her. He’d never call her his sister anymore, and that stung deeper then any wound.

I’m sorry, she thought, imagining her younger brother’s once smiling face turning into a frown. Then her older brothers appeared behind him, also frowning at her, looking down on her. I’m sorry. Then her mother appeared with a disapproving look, there was more worry lines around her eyes then normal. I’m sorry, the dieing girl thought. Her dad’s image came into view, his look was boring into her. Somewhere in her mind she wandered if he really would look at her like that, if he really cared. He was never there, so what gave him the right to care? However, she decided to forgive him. He disserved at least that much. I’m sorry, she thought faintly her eye’s closing as she came to terms with her death, I’m so blind. Then, as one final blow, her two best friends appeared.

The wolf smiled, laughing slightly, “I guess this is another thing to add to our 'Sad Ways to Die' list, huh, dog?”

The tiger like wolf beside her laughed, “I’ll write about you. How the famous Inu died by her own hands.”

She growled, “I did not die by my own hands, you idiot!”

The white wolf snorted. “Sure, you did. You thought you where alone, but you failed to realize you had us the whole time.”

“Yeah… yeah, I guess, I did. So, what happens now?”

The girl’s two best friends looked down with sorrow filled eyes.

“Now,” the feline wolf’s voice giving away the sadness she felt, “now, you leave. You leave and hope we meet again in our next life.”

“I’m sorry it’s came to this, sisters. I didn’t want it to be like this,” The Inu whispered.

“Neither did we,” the white wolf smiled gently at her dieing pack sister, “neither did we.”

Finally, tears falling down her cheeks, the girl let go. Let go of her regrets, of her sorrow, her hatred, and her longing, her body fell still as the shinigami pulled her soul from her body and took it away. To heaven or hell, no one knows, but everyone was sure where ever it went, her soul was no longer alone.
