Chapter 3 :
Company
“WHAT?!” More screaming woke me up. I got up from my bed and went under it. As I suspected, the sound was coming from the vent. “I HAVE TO LIVE HERE?” It was the same voice I heard yelling in the hall yesterday. But, before I could listen anymore, I heard a knock on my door and then the sliding of locks; I quickly sat back on my bed. Mr. Hael came into my room. “Cecile, I heard you didn't eat yesterday.” I felt him stare holes into me; I didn't answer. “We need you to eat, Cecile. You'll be of no use if you don't.” I took a deep breath. “The food was poisoned.” I looked straight at him with no emotion. “Oh no, no, no, no, no! None of the staff would poison any of the food!” The look on his face gave me proof that he wasn't telling a lie. “Do you know of my visions, Mr. Hael?” I sat perfectly still with my hands in my lap. “I had one last night of the food. When I took a bite, I fell to the floor with my hands around my throat.” I knew my eyes were tinted with anger. “Cecile, it's what we cook the food with that made you do that. Our food has a few genetically modifying solutions in it. They're part of the medicine to help make everyone stronger.” Although I was wrong about that, it was still right for me to be furious. “I had never agreed to help you and yet you still put additives in my food?” I knew I was wrong; I had no choice but to help him the moment I stepped into the building. “Cecile, you have no choice but to help. You can't leave the building anymore and we have a contract with the government that says I have permission to keep you here.” A look of concern past through his eyes. “Are you, perhaps, resisting because you're lonely, Cecile?” Now that was completely wrong. “I'm not lonely at all, and if I even was, it'd only be because Alana's not here.” He placed a hand on my shoulder. “There's a new girl next door, I'll let you two meet later today. How about you get some breakfast?” He gestured to the door. “It's not going to be modified, is it?” I tried to keep my eyes on his face but he kept moving around. “Oh no! Of course not!” I followed him out the room. I better get to know the space outside my room if I'm hoping to escape anytime soon. He took a left turn when we got out of my room; at the end of the hall was a big glass dome. There were people walking from the buffets to their tables and back up to get more food. Over on the left side, I saw a table with a girl sitting alone eating a sandwich. She had short curly red hair and freckles all over her face; she looked a few years older than I was. Mr. Hael led me over to that table. “Hello, Kristine, this is Cecile, your next door neighbor.” She looked up and grinned at me. “Nice to meet you, kid.” She shot me another toothy grin and went back to eating. “Now, Cecile, none of the food here will be modified. Each vegetable; each piece of meat are organic and grown locally. Please, eat as much as you want. I'll get you two a pitcher of water.” He walked off through the door marked 'Employees only' for the water and I walked towards the salad bar. I got a premade Caesar salad and headed back to Kristine's table. I felt a bit relieved that there was someone else to keep me sane, but accounting from the ruckus she made yesterday, I don't know how much help she'll be. “So, Kristine, tell me about yourself.” I said as I picked at the crisp lettuce on my plate. “Well, I'm the star player on my school's soccer team and I can beat every guy at my school at basketball.” Her grin came back to her face. “I'm 12, how about you, short stuff? You sound like you're 15.” I looked up from my plate and saw her picking out a pickle from her sandwich. “I'm 8, but I was raised to talk like this. I knew how to talk and write when I was 1.” She looked at me with a surprised look. “Whoa! That's awesome! I wish I was raised to be smart, but I don't think I could have taken sitting in a seat all day. I love moving. I think that's the reason why I'm so good at sports. I just always have so much energy all the time that it's hard for me to get to sleep sometimes.” Oh great, a hyperactive freak. She fits in perfectly here. But what am I saying? I can see the future. “I see, did your parents let you come here?” I continued to talk, in order to for a friendship of some sort in hopes to get out of this place. “Oh course they did! They told my parents that I was going to train with a national team! They lied; I don't see anyone even capable of running 10 feet.” She looked around the room. “Oh hey! That Mr. Hael guy is coming back with our water.” I looked over with her and saw him coming back with two cups and a pitcher of water that seemed to sparkle with the light that flowed in through the glass walls. “Hello, hello! It's nice to see you two getting along. How's the food, Cecile?” He looked down at me with a smile. “It's okay.” I said as I stuffed some salad in my mouth. “Well, I hope both of you are thirsty because I brought you guys some ice cold water.” He poured us some in a tall glass. We waited until he was gone to take a long drink from our glasses. “I haven't drunk anything for almost a day now.” I told her as I drank the last of my water. “Same, I was too angry yesterday to eat anything.” Then, all of a sudden, my throat started feeling warm. “Kristine, is it just me or do you have a warm feeling in your throat?” She touched her neck. “My neck's cool, but my throat feels like it's burning.” she said between pants. “It's starting to hurt.” She clutched her throat tighter. “Ahhh! Cecile! Help!” I saw tears coming down her eyes as I felt piercing pain in my throat. I tried to scream out a few words but nothing came out. Kristine fell to the ground shortly before I blacked out.

Chapter 2 :
Solitude
I've always hated it when I'm locked in a room somewhere. I always get a little claustrophobic because I know I can't get out, no matter how big the room is. I saw no windows or vents. Just then, I heard a little tap on my door. “Cecile, someone will come by 3 times a day to bring you food. Don't worry about air, we have our ways.” Then I heard footsteps walking away. I stood up and surveyed the room. I looked in every spot where they could have hid a vent or even an electricity box. When I checked under my bed, I found exactly what I was looking for. There was a small vent, around 4 by 8 inches. The vent itself, however, was welded into the floor. “Escape plan A – Foiled.” Despite being overly mature for my age, I still talk to myself. But only because it makes me feel less alone. I gave up my efforts and plopped down on the big, puffy queen sized bed placed in the middle of the room. “I'm all alone. No one to talk to; no one to argue with. I really am gonna die here, aren't I?” I slowly closed my eyes and started to drift to sleep. There was a knock on my door 10 minutes after I fell asleep. “Cecile?” A female voice drifted into my room. It had a warm sound to it but felt cold. “I brought you your dinner.” My stomach growled in agreement. “Alright, bring it in.” I heard the clicking of about 5 locks. She was a young woman, presumably in her late 20's, wearing what looked like a nurse's uniform. “What's that?” I said while pointing to the food. “It's steak. What else would you expect?” I looked at her like she was crazy. “You expect me to believe you? You people are the reason why I'm here in the first place.” I glared at her. “Just leave the food at the desk and I'll eat it later.” My stomach complained with a loud grumble. “Alright missy, just knock 5 times on the door when you're done.” She put down the food and left. What was on the tray was steak, steamed vegetables, and a glass of ice cold water with a pitcher to refill it with. Anything I can use to escape? No, if you didn't include the butter knife they gave me. I sat down at the nearest chair and closed my eyes; focusing my mind on the food. My body suddenly grew stiff and then lightened instantly. I looked around; I saw myself eating the food and then suddenly stop. Then I saw myself fall to the ground and clutching my stomach. I relaxed my body and found myself back where I was. “The food's poisoned...” I walked over to the door and knocked 5 times. The same lady opened the door and looked at the tray. “Oh, you didn't eat anything.” She frowned when she lowered her gaze on me. “Mr. Hael isn't going to be happy with this.” She walked over and took the tray. “Why would he care if I eat or not?” I folded my arms and stood like a stuck up kid. My question was answered by the sliding of locks in place. I dragged my feet over to my bed and laid down, ready to drift back to sleep. “NO! Let me go! I'll call the cops! You can't do this to me!!” The obnoxious sound of someone else drifted through my walls. “Listen, kid, we have permission for you to be in here. So shut your trap and get in your room!” I heard banging and then the sound of a door closing. Then I heard talking coming from under me. “EW! This room is PINK. What do you think I am? A girl?!” I heard what sounded like the crashing of glass. “Listen, Kristine, you are a girl. Now, how about you sit down and let me explain everything to you.” I was too tired to listen anymore. I let my heavy eyelids fall as I drifted into a deep sleep.

Chapter 1 :
Fulfilled
“No!! Let her go! Give her back to me!” Alana, my caretaker, screamed as two men took me away. With the powers I have, I knew that this day was coming soon. I just hadn't expected it to come this soon. My power to glimpse into the future had told me that these men would come to get me some day. I had willingly walked with them to their van, knowing better than to start a quarrel with them. “Hey kid.” The guy in the passenger seat turned around. “Yes?” I kept my eyes on him; making sure my expression was straight. “What's your name?” He said while looking at a clipboard. “Cecile.” I felt no need to lie. “You don't have a last name?” A look of frustration came across his face. “Trale.” “And how old are you?” He asked as he wrote something down on his clipboard. “I'm 8.” As stupid as his questions were, I knew not cooperating would be a very stupid thing to do. “Why are you asking me these questions?” Instead of answering, he turned around in his seat and ignored me. Adults these days. The ride wasn't long at all; they had driven me to a newly opened laboratory that I pass sometimes with Alana on trips to the park. When I walked through the front door, I was greeted by smiles and slight nods from everyone who passed while I was walked to, I assume, what was going to be my room. Adults, being as inept as they are, gossiped about me as loud as they would when they talk about the weather. The men led me to a room labeled “Alpha A1”, inside was what you would expect every girl in the world to want their room to look like. Pink. I cringed a little as they led me to a stool in the shape of a flower; I sat down. “Miss Trale, do you understand why you're here?” The guy who was the driver asked me. He was a pretty short and on the fat side. “Well no, not really. I'm just waiting for you to explain.” Just because I knew they were going to take me away doesn't mean that I knew why. “At Hypernatural Incorporated, we find bright, young kids like you to help us out with long term projects. We'd like you to be one of those kids.” He spoke to me like I was one of those stupid, stuck up 8 year olds at my school; not like the 'bright, young kids' he was talking about. “And what do you want me to help you with?” I gave him a stern look that told him I wasn't the type of kid to be messed with. He let out a chuckle. “Look here, Mike, we have a little toughie here,” he pinched my cheek while looking at the man behind him,” You see, we're inventing new medicine that's supposed to make everyone stronger. We picked you because you're very, very healthy and quite strong too.” Something in his voice told me that he was talking about my ability to see into the future. “What kind of medicine is it?” I didn't change my expression. This kind of guy isn't going to get his way with me. “It's a type of medicine that's supposed to enhance your mind and body, thus making it stronger. But, a little girl like you doesn't need to know the details. So what do you say? Would you like to help us?” The man's voice was sinister. “No, I would like to go back home to Alana.” “I'm sorry,” he looked at his clipboard,” Cecile, but you can't go back home to Alana. She can always come visit you, though.” “Why can't I see Alana?! You brought me here for your reasons and I would like to see Alana.” I felt a temper tantrum work its way through my body but I kept control. “Honey, you can't go back outside. That's just how it is with this building. It's built to keep certain people in.” “So why did you ask me if I wanted to help you?” I kept a straight face. “Why did you do that when I didn't even have a choice?” I lost my cool and screamed. “Listen, Cecile, you look like a very understanding girl,” he placed his hand on my back,” It was just easier for us if you just agreed to do it. We didn't want to force you.” I shook his hand off of me. “Leave me alone.” He stood there looking down at me and turned around while gesturing everyone else to follow him out the door. “Very well, Cecile, if that's what you wish.” The door closed and I heard the metallic sliding of locks.
