What a Pretty Crappy Week.... |
At the beginning of last week, I received some bad news, my boss' mother and sister had both passed away within four hours of each other. As a result, I've taken up her duties on getting my preschool ready to begin on Monday (the 25th). It's been very tiring, and I haven't been feeling great as a result. I know I shouldn't complain about that, but I'm feeling drained.
Then this weekend, my mother told me that one of my aunts had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. As a result, she had to have a hysterectomy in order for the doctors to remove two soccer ball sized tumors. They hope that they've caught the cancer in time before it spread to other areas of her body, but it's not certain yet. sweatdrop
One of the few bright points from this week was my youngest niece's first birthday party, where she looked very cute sitting next to her ladybug shaped birthday cake. Such a sweet little girl...and a symbol that while some lives end, many are just beginning. 3nodding That, in itself, gives me a little hope that this upcoming week will be better.

I think of her still, with treasured memories of the dreams we had. Of those special times we spent with just each other, sharing our thoughts and experiences and knowing that we would not judge one another. Of the way my heart would beat faster any time I would hear from her, pounding against my chest harder than it had ever done so before. Time has passed, and events transpired which have changed the courses of our lives, but I often wonder if the right decisions were made....especially when my heart still beats faster when I think about her.

Thirty Years of Star Wars... |
A long time ago, in thirty-some theaters around the country, a little sci-fi movie about a young man named Luke Skywalker premired. No one expected much from this movie...in fact many expected this movie to fall flat on its face. But by November of 1977 Star Wars had established itself as a blockbuster, and the movie world was never the same. With the release of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the Star Wars franchise further cemented itself a masterpiece of film, beloved by children and adults alike. The popular reaction to the release of the prequel trilogy proved that the world's love affair with Star Wars isn't over.
The upcoming years will bring further exploration of the Star Wars stories in books, comics, TV shows, role-playing, and video games...and as a tribute to the phenomenon known as Star Wars, my multimedia this week will be dedicated to songs from the saga.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. So sit back, remember where you were the first time you saw the Star Wars movies. Happy 30th Birthday Star Wars...here's to many years to come of good times.... smile

One Hits Wonders? It Only Took One Hit to Make Them Wonders! |

Geez, it's been a while since I last posted in my journal... xp sweatdrop stressed
Anyway...for you older folks out there...remember the bands back in your younger days that, for lack of a better term, you thought were "the bomb?" By the way, do kids nowadays still use that term??? Hahahahaha...thought not.
Well, my friends, the days of those bands you thought would make it big, but ended falling flat on their faces instead, are back!!! Throughout the next several weeks I'll be rotating my multimedia through a variety of One Hit Wonder bands, so that you can relive the glory days of these musical icons. If you're a younger reader...now you'll finally know who "Men Without Hats," "Taco," "Devo," and various other bands/singers are if your elders ever bring them up in conversation. Hey, us old folks thought we had class!!!
Anyway, I hope you all enjoy the line-up I have in store. Get ready to "rock-out" adults, and go back to the "glory days of music!"
Planned Viewing:
May 14-20: Men Without Hats--The Safety Dance May 21-27: House of Pain--Jump Around May 28-June 3: Star Wars Week of Music June 4-10: Devo--Whip It June 11-17: Biz Markie--Just a Friend June 18-24: Deee-light--Groove is in the Heart June 25-July 1: TBA
Keep in mind that this schedule is subject to change...and may be changed without prior notice. Now, without further ado...let the hits roll!!!

Well, it's that time of of year again. A time which some people wait for with anxious glee, while others (myself included) dread more than the prospect of spending another Valentine's Day alone. It's time for the return of the Talking Heads...and no, I don't mean the band. Though that would be cool.
*Sings a little bit of "Burning Down the House"*
No...it's time for "American Idol" Season 461, or whatever season it is...I lost track after Season 2. Time for Simon, Paula, and Randy to get some more airtime. Time for Simon to say things like, "I don't mean to be cruel, but, your performance stunk worse than expired milk out in the sun." Time for Randy to quip, "Yeah...I was feeling that, DAWG!" And time for Paula to defend everybody who auditions for the show until Simon eventually causes her to storm off in a huff. You know, it kind of reminds me of my family's monthly get-togethers.... wink
If you're like me, you'll probably still tune in to the first few episodes. In my opinion, they tend to be the best of the bunch. I mean, the caterwauling of wannabes just before their ambitions to become the next hot thing on the music scene are crushed is like a siren's song to me. Sure, I like to see who actually has the potential to be something great, but the true draw is to see who really should have never tried out.
Once the competition get turned over to the viewing audience (yeah...right) to decide the fate of the contestants, my interest tends to quickly fade. That's probably because the person I choose as my favorite tends to be the second or third to go into obscurity limbo. Why couldn't you have won Mikalah...why couldn't you have won?!? sad
So...who will win "American Idol" this year? A lanky white guy? A chunky black guy (you've been my favorite American Idol so far, Ruben, sweat and all!)? A white girl who will end up singing candy bar jingles? A Tina Turner imitator? Or could it be a whole new ball game...someone who doesn't fit those profiles???
Let me know if an overweight girl makes it to the final episode. Otherwise, don't bother telling me who makes it. I'll be too busy listening to Talking Heads songs.... cool
Peace,
Kinnei
