Noami and Joel waved their friends off and started to walk home. "If Hanataro were a girl, him and Kaze would make a great couple." She commented.
"Thay are a great couple." Joel told her bluntly.
"Oh okay." Naomi started walking with Joel behind her. Several minutes pass by as the scenery changed. The lauhter of children and parents were heard as they noticed they were soon by the neighborhod park. The conversation from earlier today hit her like a ton of bricks when Naomi finally caught on, "Wait... what?!"
Joel looked at her as if she grew a second head, "What what?" he asked her.
"Kaze and Hanataro?!" she exclaimed.
"What about them?" He asked her calmly.
"They're a couple?!"
"Yes," Joel sighed, "you're just now getting that?" He shook his head in disappointment. "Naomi, you are so dense..."
"B-b-but, how do they.."
"Kaze-kun don't... ah..."
"Hanataro, you act as if this is your first time. Just letme devour you sweetness...." Naomi's face reddened at the explicit images of her two friends.
"Who is receiving?" she cried.
"Hey shut up for a second!!" Joel shouted, thus interrupting her thoughts. "They may both be guys but they love each other. That's what really counts."
"Oh that's right," Naomi remembered, "Thank you wise Sensei Joel." Naomi bowed from the waist with a straight back deeply to her best friend.
"You are welcome young pupil. That'll be 100,000,000 yen ($12.60239 Mil US)." He smiled mischieviously and held out his hand.
"What?!"Naomi objected, "It''ll be five thousand life times before I even see that much cash!"
"If you don't have it I suggest you be born a wealthy business lady in the next life! Until then pay with your body!" Joel thundered with an obnoxious laugh.
"No way!!" Naomi started to run and Joel caught up to her. When he grabbed and tickled her, she couldn't help but cry out in laughter. Great Kami (God), Budha, let this friendship last many life times. Naomi prayed silently.
The two finally made it home as the sun hid behind the buildings of the suburbs and cities. Naomi lived on the left side of Joel and was literally five steps away. "Are your parents home?" Joel asked.
"Oh, not today. They're on another business trip. Something about seeing Professor Ray." Naomi explained.
"The man who founded the new era of natural resources of 2979? Lucky them." Joel congratulated her, "Do you need me to spend the night again?" Joel offered. In middle schol, Naomi was often lonely. That's when her parents started leaving the country a lot, so Joel would spend the night while they were out to keep her company.
"Yeah, I'd like that." Naomi smiled. "Maybe my mom left me some new reciped to follow." She inserted her key and turned, the lock clicked and they went through the door. Joel sat down his stuff and clicked open his phone.
"Mom," he called as he heard the phone pick up, "I'm at Naomi's." He waited. "Okay... yes her parents are on a trip." A pause again. "I'll be sure to call them. Alright. I love you too, Mom." He clicked his phone off and turned to Naomi, "I'll go grab some clothes and be back in five."He promised.
"See ya then," Naomi smiled as she slipped off her shoes and set them down in front of the door. She the put on her house slippers that her mother embroidered for her.The pink slippers read Naomi's name with little wings on each letter.
Naomi headed towarded the kitchen. It was recently cleaned from the looks of it. Namoi looked and saw a note in her mother's illegible handwriting, then saw her father's master penmanship. Naomi attempted to read her Mother's notes. "Mom... I can't read this..." she groaned. Naomi then picked up the note from her dad. It read:
Translation (by Papa):
Naomi, we're leaving for another trip. Joel can spend the night if you get lonely. Recipes are in their usual place plus 5 new ones! (Yeah!! Level up!!)
You said you were worried about your chest, so the five new recipes will help you with that. wink
-Love Mom and Dad
P.S. I don't want you to grow!!
-Dad
Naomi couldn't help but laugh at Dad's constant translations of Mom's notes. It showed how much they really love each other.
"Wow, your mom needs to work on her handwriting..." Joel interrupted from behind her. Naomi jumped from shock and grabbed a pan to swing. Joel ducked in the nick of time and just as quickly as he ducked, Joel straightened to grab Naomi's hand. "Calm down, I'm glad you remembered what I taught you though."
Naomi let out a sigh and hugged Joel, "I'm glad you're here."
"I'm always here." Joel smiled and tightened his armsaround her waist. "Come on, I know you're hungry."
Naomi wanted to protest nuther stomach spoke first. "My mom left our book of recipes, and if she hadn't typed them, we'd starve." Naomi opened a cubboard and reached for the recipe book. Joel reached for the book and revealing the decorations. The recipe book was covered in foam sunflowers and the sun. on the edge of the book was foam cut into random zigzags to make it look like grass.
"You're still too short to reach this book?" He laughed.
'Mom keeps pushing it back just to laugh at me!" Naomi cried.
"That's what makes it funny." He laughed harder.
"Shut up or else I'm not cooking." Naomi argued.
"Yeah yeah. I'll cut up the carrots." Joel smiled. The recipes Naomi cooks always involve carrots and tonight was no exception. She picked Vegetable Egg rolls tonight. The egg rolls came out fine considering Joel's history in the kitchen. In Naomi's mind, he always seemed to make something for up in flames or shrink something in the skillet. Those experiences put him in the permanant position of slicing and dicing when neccessary.
Joel wanted a side dish with white rice and spicy omelet. Naomi obliged with a smile and continued on the journey to satisfy their tastebuds. Joel did a good job on slicing the cabbage, peppers and carrots. Stir frying didn't take that long and the smell wafted through the house with ease, causing Joel's stomach to audibly growl.
Joel turned on the television and the theme for Shakugan No Shana just ended. Images of a red haired girl with a sword slashed away at her enemies flashed on the screen. Joel cheered for her while Naomi laughed at her naive nature. "She's so moe." Naomi laughed.
"I know right?"
"Thay are a great couple." Joel told her bluntly.
