Chapter: ONE
Flashback End
Hunter-Part II
“Kai? Could that really be you? Kai, what happened to you?”
“Life happened. And a very cruel one at that.” Kai said. “So nice for you to fall into my trap by the way, now I can finally take the revenge I disserve!”
“What trap? I came here by my own will?!” Noi said still scrambling away in fear. He’d never seen a demon with this much hatred in its eyes before. Not even from all the year of being a Hunter with his brother.
“Ah,” the ferocious demon paused, “But you didn’t. I was inside your mind listening to your discussion with your brother; I told you that it was a good idea to come here.” The demon laughed as Noi realized how easily his mind had been infiltrated. He had trained with his brother for years, just for this purpose. So that demons couldn’t enter his mind and deceive him so easily. But Kai had somehow penetrated his seal around his mind and wandered into his subconscious. Damn It Kai!
Frustrated the young Hunter pulled a knife from his belt, kicked his legs over his head creating a back flip, and threw the knife at Kai. The demon spun to his right swinging his right arm down deflecting the blade sending it twirling to the ground. The knife stuck in the ground, handle pointed in the air, proof of Noi’s feeble attempt to weaken Kai. The demon then lunged himself forward delivering a crushing left hook in Noi’s direction, who then sidestepped to the left and halted Kai’s fist by grabbing it in mid-punch with his right hand. Quickly, Noi sidestepped again, this time back to the right and spinning as he gripped Kai’s extended elbow. He lifted the beast over him in a matter of seconds and threw him into the cold stone wall. With a thud Kai stuck the surface of the rock, making a dent into it. Infuriated he leapt from the wall. Noi flung himself backward into another flip just before Kai’s enlarged feet came down upon the floor crushing the rock into shards. Running now, Kai swung again and again in an attempt to slash at Noi’s flesh once again. Surprising Kai with his nimble movements and speed Noi dodged each blow from Kai’s talon-like claws. He then delivered an attack of his own, with an upward kick Noi sent Kai back spinning through the air. The demon thrust his foot down, scaring the stone floor again as he tried to stop himself from spiraling through the air. Wasting no time, Noi ran up to Kai and deliver a series of multiple kinds of kicks into him, ending it with a solid left hook across the face. But Kai was not about to let this puny human disgrace him with a blow to the face, he (what felt like) unhinged his jaw making his mouth seem even larger. He bit down as hard as he could, sending every one of his now canine teeth slamming into the plump human arm. Blood fluttered everywhere as Noi suffered another devastating wound. Releasing his jaw the demon spun and threw a round-house kick into Noi’s chest. Covered in blood filled with exhaustion Noi decided it was time to end this fight before the retched demon got the revenge he longed for. Noi undid his teleportation spell sending him back to the place whence he came. Enraged that his pray had escaped his grasp Kai fell to his knees and gradually slipped away from his demon form.
When my demon form rolled off my being I thought about Mia. She seemed like the worrying type, and I had no idea how long I had been away. I didn’t even stop to try to fix up the demolished cave. I had shattered a pillar, severely dented the far left wall, made a noticeable crater in the ground near the center of the circle of stones, and created a large divot close to a few of the pillars. But I had to get home and warn the others. I released the teleportation spell, and arrived in the basement. The light was left on so I easily found the stairs and headed up into the house. As I opened the door, and proceeded into the living room, Mia leapt up from a chair to greet me. I raised my hand in signal to stop. I noticed a lone cup of tea sitting on the small table placed in front of the couch. With no sign of Dekun or Gon it seemed as if Mia lived alone in the house.
“Where’s Gon?” I asked in a deep tone. I needed to inform him that the Seven Stoned circle had been compromised. I may have caught Noi off guard, but if his brother came, it would be no easy battle. Noi’s brother Jonathan was twenty five years old and packed with muscle.
“He left with Dekun, mumbled something about sensing the presence of something strange.” Mia answered half-heartedly. She obviously wanted to check out and see what the “something” was. “Interesting,” was my only reply. I walked over to the dully painted front door.
“I’m going to uh,” I glanced back at her; back to sitting on the couch looking up to me in her soft blue eyes. “Go out and see if I can find them. It’s kind of urgent.”
“It’s fine, leave if you have to. I was just starting to get a little worried about you is all. I can fend for myself here.” She said summoning Cho in a quick puff of smoke smiling. I knew she would be fine. I pulled past the door and burst into a sprint knowing that Gon wouldn’t leave without warning over something small. It was already dusk outside, so coved by the shadows I changed into my demon form for the second time today, thrilled by the chance to explore more of my power in an open space. I nimbly leapt from rooftop to rooftop bouncing along the top of the village in a quite whisper. I ran so fast through the village and easily ripped through half of it in less than a minute. My blood colored hawk like eyes glanced around franticly as I tried to search for Gon and Dekun. My enhanced senses then caught something, a creature moving in the East of the village. I ran over to that area, desperate to find out what this unknown being was. Maybe it was the thing that lead Gon from the house. Maybe it was Gon himself. I gnashed my canine teeth together preparing for a battle if need be. As I approached closer to the creature I saw that it was a large wolf. Surprised that something so insignificant as a wolf had caught my attention, I slowed my pace and was about to turn back around. But in a flash the wolf was in mid-air above the rooftops with me, towering above me. What in the hell?! Knowing now the impossibility that this was an ordinary wolf I leapt away from its pounce, flipping through the air as I gracefully landed atop a building across from the animal.
