I'm odd. That's the first thing you need to hear before you read this rant.
Alright, so... kids say cruel things, it's a known fact of life. But when I'm sitting here, listening to how I'm a "lesbian," a "dyke", a "freak" and a "loser" and see these people get away with it? Wow. And they call my disabled friend a retard, even though he's not retarded in the slightest.
But if they say shut up?
HOLY s**t. Everyone goes wild.
But I digress. The point is, do these people even know what they're saying? It's so much more cruel than a simple little phrase like shut up. I only find it cruel because they have no idea what it means, and if they do know, they think it's so freakin WRONG. And it's not.
Lesbian: A homosexual woman. This really shouldn't be used as an insult- I've never met a lesbian, but I have met a bisexual woman and she was a sweetheart.
Gay: Well, "happy" or a homosexual man. Again, not an insult. I've met great gay men, but like everyone, there are jerks in this group. The jerks and "flamers" certainly get annoying as all ********, but is it something that really concerns us?
Retard: Not even a real term. It means someone who's retarded, but it's not a scientific phrase, or even layman's terms. It's just used by ignorant jack asses who have no souls.
Freak: Most people think of headbanging, mohawk- sporting metal heads when they think freak. Freak Shows were a place for great deformities [i do not agree with this in the slightest- putting the disabled on display] or with great skills like immense flexability, not for people who just happen to act different. When you call someone a freak, you're technically saying that they belong in a Freak Show.
Gothic: There are multiple definitions for this one.
1) A time period that lasted from the 1200s to the 1300s AD
2) A style of architecture from that time
3) The Visi Goths were a northern, anceint German tribe. Barbarians.
If you want to look at it on modern terms, go right ahead. You should know the "signs and symptoms of being goth", so there's no confusion there. It's so sad... I met this 4th Grade kid who I thought was so cute and stuff. She asked me, "are you gothic?"
Even America's youth has been sucked into this need for classification.
Loser: When I think loser, I think... in honesty, I think of a hermit. I'm no such thing, nor are my friends. THAT'S RIGHT, I have friends; very good friends.
There's a lot to be said about homosexuality. It seems like people have almost become less accepting- Caligula was homosexual- some believe a *****- but the senate did nothing. They stabbed Julius Caeser, so it's not like they didn't have the nerve to do such a thing.
In a way, we have become more accepting, though. In Oscar Wilde's time, he was jailed for, I believe, two years for being homosexual. But being a "f*****t" is still considered a big taboo.
First of all, I have no problem with gays. I think it's great that they're happy, even if they spend their life with another man. Not a problem.
Secondly, think about it. When in an argument, you might often hear, "you don't know me!" from your opponent. They're right; their personal life is none of your business and you shouldn't care to know about it. But when a gay man pops up somewhere, everyone can dig into his personal life and mock him relentlessly, or worse. Same goes for a lot of different groups, but I think that someone's love life is an extremely personal thing. What the hell do you care if they "swing that way?" Some gay men just don't want you to know and they don't want to hear any comments. Back off; his sexual preference isn't hurting a soul. Unlesss he walks up to you and suddenly anally rapes you, which I doubt most men do....
I also think that homosexuality is very human. Alright, so two men do not have bodies equipt with compatible baby- making "equiptment". Who cares? If they're in love, it shows that they can see past just breeding to keep the race alive. It shows that they're above animals.
Yeah, I know. Animals have been reported to be homosexual. A duck once crashed into a window and died, only to be raped by another drake. But that's about power, not love. It's the same with most rape- power, not love. Anyone is capable of having sex with anyone else, male or female, but that doesn't show love. IF A MAN LOVES ANOTHER MAN, it shows that they can think outside of mating for offspring.
There are two male penguins who were raising a child, so... very cute penguins, by the way ^_^
And yeah, sometimes they might have the desire to adopt a child, but that's different that just "mating", no? It almost shows that they care enough about the child to take them out of foster care and into a real home, even if that home is a little odd. And if not- if it doesn't show that much- we can see that most human beings have the desire to raise a child and have a family, with whomever they at least have some kind of attraction to.
Attraction and love are two very different things. I'm not saying that all gay relationships are loving, I'm saying that the ones that are are perfectly fine by me. I have an issue with any relationship that's just about sex.
Can I say this: If two gay men love each other, they can't get married. But if a man and a woman loathe each other and are only together for money or for some other selfish reason, they can get married. Is that right?
I would just like to add as a side note- type thing that I live in a small village and we have quite a few couples here, both gay and lesbian.
But... meh, my views could be completely off. I'm not a psychologist, and I'm not even a psych student. My mother was- go talk to her if you want accuracy.
