A cord attached to my ankles.
I wish it weren't.
I teeter on the edge of a high bridge,
Balancing on the balls of my feet.
Adrenaline and nerves jumble together,
Making me shake with anticipation,
As this always does.
I spread my arms out like wings,
Close my eyes,
Take a deep breath,
Smile slowly,
And fall backwards.
Most people scream.
But I prefer to keep silent,
Letting the wind wrap around me in a tight embrace.
I open my eyes
And see the earth and sky meld into one being.
The wind rushes around my body.
Time slows down.
I embrace the wind as it caresses me with many hands.
I close my eyes and hear it whisper the sweet nothings that only lovers know.
Too soon the cord stops my flight.
Too soon I am on solid ground.
My face is flushed.
My hair still floating on a phantom wind rush
As I remember the flight from my mind.
