That's the Stetson University Saxophone Studio motto courtesy of Mr. Bishop, our professor. He gave us a lecture Thursday about how none of us practice enough and he feels that he is failing us as a teacher because none of us are truly reaching the limits of our potential as saxophonists.
He said we need to be practicing at least 5 hours a day like he did when he went to Northwestern University and studied with Dr. Hemke.
The funny thing is, I don't really disagree with him. I'm practicing more myself and doing my best to get better. I even asked if I could take on more solo literature for this semester to challenge myself. I'm going to be working on four solo pieces and three of them are going to be played on my Junior Recital and I enjoy the challenege because I want to be better. I've already decided that I'm going to play the "Postcard from Home" by Karel Husa as part of some recital this semester because it's a beautiful piece.
I really want to be able to play somewhere important one day or with a brilliant group like the Chicago SYmphony one day and that'll only happen through practice. Hell, I Really want to play the Glazunouv saxophone concerto with the Chicago Symphony one day, so I better get cracking.
So yes..."Sleep less. Practice more."
In much more awesome news, it's only 7 days now until Brittany and I go to Medieval Times and I'm probably going to go over to her house to meet her family as well and watch Resident Evil: Apocalypse.
Gord, I can't wait. whee heart
