Before I go into what Friday at the convention was like, I want to post up some incredible news.
That's right fools, she's now my girlfriend so back off guys. She's taken and ladies, I am happily off the market. Life is good.
Friday:
So Friday I get up early with the guys who were all going to this conducting seminar at the convention and since I had rehearsal at 10:00 AM, I decided to just hangout at the hotel and have breakfast. I ate and met Mike and Erin there and since Erin was in the Reading Band too, I bummed a ride with her and Liz to rehearsal.
This rehearsal was a little bit better than Thursday's was, but it was still fairly abysmal. I guess I'm just spoiled from getting to play with such an incredible ensemble on a daily basis, but that's not my fault that Stetson's Symphonic Band is so good. Anywho, we ran through some of the pieces that morning that were more difficult and people still seemed to have no clue that each piece had a key signature other than C. stressed
After the two hour rehearsal I want over to the convention to wait around until the performance at 2:45 PM. While I was there I went over to Stetson's booth and saw Mr. Bishop (My saxophone professor) there with a possible student. I sat and talked with the student and Mr. Bishop for a bit as well as Mr. Hose (The orchestra conductor). Mr. Hose and I talked about the Winter break and then about the new titanium batons that Mollard had on sale. I went straight over to their booth after that and bought one as well as a standard baton with a case. I showed it off to Mr. Hose since I'd be using it in conducting with him this semester.
Well the performance came and well...It went. That was about all I could say about it. The band was fair enough but nothing really any good. We even had to stop and restart one piece because the conductor did something completely different with the starting place of the music. Sweet Gord I hate people sometimes...We didn't even get to play the freakin' Tichelli "Symphony No.2" and that's what I was looking forward to! There's a major saxophone solo in the second movement that is SO freakin' sweet and they decided that since we were one minute over time that we couldn't take an extra five minutes to play the excerpts we had practice so freakin' much. I really, REALLY loathe people sometimes.
The rest of the day came and went and I ended up walking with Mike and Erin to the Stetson Alumni reception across the bridge which was pretty nice. Free food and beer is always a god thing in my book. The odd thing was that the only people I really talked to at the reception were Josh, Drew and Mr. Hose. Since Josh and Drew no longer go to Stetson and are off doing their own things, I thought that was a bit...Awkward.
The rest of the night came and went and I went back to the hotel lobby where later that night I went downstairs and spent the $10 I found on the convention floor on a Jack and Coke. Everyone went out to Chili's later that night and Tim and I stayed up in the hotel instead watching The O'Reilley Factor and me playing Final Fantasy.
Good, boring times indeed...
