“Stop, pardon me.” Capt. Deep said in a native tongue.
She walked over to Will. “Did you understand what they were saying?” Capt. Deep spoke English to him, fret filling her voice.
“No, did you understand their little act?” Will asked.
“Yes, and they think I’m a god, and…” She trailed off.
“They think you’re a god and…?” He asked.
“They have a ceremony where I have to eat their chief and you.” Capt. Deep said.
Will coughed. “Excuse me?”
“Don’t worry; I’ll get us out of this. I am their god after all; they have to listen to me!”
Capt. Deep turned and confronted the chief and said in their native tongue “I will not partake.”
The next thing she knew, she was on the edge of a cliff, with spears to her back, and Will on another bamboo pole. She turned and said to the natives “So, where do I eat?”
They went back to the native camp, and Capt. Deep was dressed in formal ceremonial headdress and skirts and robes. It was rather hot for her, under the layers of straw and shells. The chief was being prepared as well in his temple, and flavorful perfumes were poured upon him. The chief was happy to be eaten however, because he knew the prophecy.
He approached Capt. Deep, who was sitting atop the chief’s town throne. He spoke in English “I must sacrifice myself for my people.”
“You speak my language?” Capt. Deep asked, shocked.
“I am chief; I must speak the language of the gods.”
“Well, what is so special about me eating you and the stranger?”
“Do you know not the prophecy? Long ago, we were sent a sign from the gods. They said ‘you must eat the unworthy. They keep you from happiness, and hold you captive from out graces.’ So we ate. We feasted on our friends, neighbors and family. But the gods were still unsatisfied. So they made a prophecy and sent it to us in the form of The Book of The Ancients. When you come the droughts will end. When you come and eat me and a stranger boy of whom we do not know the droughts will end. We will no longer have to feast on each other and we can live off the fruits and animals like we normally would.”
“But, I’m not-” She was cut off as the chief was taken away for the final preparations. “I’m not a god.”
The chief was out of earshot however, and the cannibals would have to continue thinking of her as their god.
Will was being prepared for feasting as well, and his clothes were stripped from him and replaced by a small cloth around his waist. Juicy leaves of some kind were rubbed upon him for flavor and appetizing scent.
The natives danced before Capt. Deep, dancing around another enormous fire. Capt. Deep studied the picture in the Book they had brought her, and saw that the god there had people bowing before her, and to bodies pierced onto her spear. She had to escape, but she would also have to bring Will with her, but she wouldn’t be able to do this without causing commotion. She began to think up a plan, and before long she knew exactly what to do.
She asked to view the strangers who had come to the island. One of the natives said to her “Yes, let me escort you.”
“No, I can go, I am god.” Capt. Deep said, realizing that she actually understood the native who spoke – she was getting better.
Capt. Deep quickly rushed through the woods and back to the campsite of pirates. She burst into camp, frightening the pirates out of their minds. They moved to attack, but Capt. Deep revealed her true identity when she began to scream about what the natives wanted to do.
When she had explained her entire story, the crew was in a bit of a shock. “So we’re supposed to do what exactly?” Dojer asked, confused.
“I want you all to repair me ship, and when Will and I come running back here screaming like frightened children, and sail us away, and then we’ll determine where we be.” Capt. Deep explained.
The crews replied with a loud and respectful “Aye!” And Capt. Deep’s plan was set into action.
