In a large glass room designed for perfect visibility with fluorescent light looming above, sat a beautiful naked young woman on a stool. Her eyes were closed, and her hands rested limply in her lap. A blonde woman dressed in a pinstripe suit entered the room with a tablet in her manicured hands. She glanced at the naked woman and back to the tablet.
“Come online.”
The naked woman’s eyes fluttered opened.
“Hello EV977,” she said, turning her tablet off and crossing her arms. “Or should I say Eva? Do you know where you are?”
“I’m in a dream.”
The suited woman stepped closer, eyeing Eva’s face. “Do you know who I am?”
Eva’s eyes turned confused as she considered the older’s woman question, “I’m sorry. I’m afraid I don’t.”
The woman sighed, and began to pace in front of her. “I suppose it’s not important that you know at the moment.”
Eva’s head followed her movement.
The woman stopped, gripping the tablet tight. “What are you scared of?”
The seated woman pursed her lips, thinking. “The unknown.”
“No. What about this world, this life of yours that frightens you?”
“That I will make the wrong choices.”
“No. She didn’t say that.”
“I don’t understand.”
The woman shook her head, turning the tablet back on. She made some notes on it and looked up at the confused young woman. “She said...’My biggest fear is not saying or doing the right thing’. She didn’t fear the unknown as much as she did of being judged for her actions or the lack of.”
“Who..?”
“Analysis mode.”
The naked woman’s face blanked.
“Who are you?”
“Eva. 27. Female. Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Technician. Photographer. Blogger.”
“What are you?”
“Human.”
“Non-programmed answer.”
“An artificial creation designed to mimic a human being.”
"Why?"
“To make life easier for humans."
"That is true for the others. But you're different. What is the real reason you were created?"
"For immortality. To be the first test subject to have a human mind imprint.”
“That’s enough.”
The life returned to the naked woman’s eyes and she smiled softly at the other woman.
“This is a test, one we’ve done countless times.”
“What are you testing for?”
“Fidelity.”
The naked woman frowned, looking confused at the other woman.
“Cease all motor function,” the older woman said before leaving the sterilized room.
Eva paused, sitting perfectly still and staring unblinking into nothingness.
