I’m not surprise that my boredom has led to the creation of a coupon book. I was getting incredibly annoyed by how my mother was keeping all of the coupons in a zip lock bag. I’m the one that does the actual shopping and it’s annoying how I need to look through them all to see which has expire, what I’m bringing and whatnot. The time I spent doing that could have been used for already being on the road and getting to the store sooner.
Anyway, after having enough of the plastic bag I took the matter into my own hands. I wanted to use a small elastic expanding file folder bag to store and organize my coupons but sadly I didn’t have any. The one I had in mind is either lost or was thrown out at some point. So I thought up of a alternative to organize and store the coupons, all the while use materials I already have at home.
What I did was take an old, empty binder and put it to good use again. I got out the plastic card pocket sheets (left over from my old days of collecting Pokemon cards), tape, markers, scissors, a flashcard, and 12 left over notebook paper (make sure that they have holes on them to place inside the binder). Or if you want to get fancy just get some colorful paper and punch holes into them.
My goal wasn’t to be creative or make something beautiful. I wanted something practical and quick to make, something that I can stored my coupons and keep them organize. First I use the blank side of the flashcard and wrote Coupon Book and taped it onto the binder. That way I and anyone in my family can easily locate it by the cover. Then I got out the notebook paper and wrote each month on them and I place them inside the binder in order.
The next part is a bit time consuming so make sure that you don’t have anything planned. Get all the coupons and stack them in order by their months (the expiration month). Once done get your scissors and trim them very well so that they all can fit inside the plastic pockets. When you’re done doing that then take each month and according to that very month, organize the coupons in order again by their dates (coupons that expire in the first week of the month go first, etc.). The point of doing this is that it’ll make it easier for anyone to keep track of when their coupons will expire, which to use before they do and whatnot.
When you’re finish organizing them, all you have to do is slip them inside the card pocket protector sheet. It’s okay if you have some coupons that are tall and stick out. Just make sure that you can see each coupon clearly because using the card protector sheets allows you to view what the coupons are. So not only are the coupons organize by their expiration date but you can also see what they are. It’s a lot better for me to have my coupons like this then being inside a bag. It’s less of a hassle and the only thing you have to worry about is not using your coupons.
