Am I the only one who would like for some of the older characters to come back into the series? They don’t necessarily have to have a huge role but just a cameo appearance would be nice. Or even just hinting/mentioning what they’ve been up to.
I bring this up because I miss Billy Coen and Rebecca Chambers. I would really love to see and/or hear from them again. I’m also curious to know what they’ve been up to. It’ll be great to know whether they moved on with their life or is somehow helping in their own way to stop Umbrella and any other company that’s affiliate with it.
But that’s wishful thinking. I doubt they’ll ever appear again, though it’s possible that Rebecca might appear in some way. I say that because it’s very likely that she’s doing something similar as Claire (who is currently a member of the human rights organization, Terra Save). It’s possible that she could also be a member of the organization because its primary function is to provide aid during bioterrorism and medical-related incidents.
Rebecca was a rookie member of the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo team, with experience in the field of biochemistry. She’s talented, showing expertise in chemistry and medicine so it wouldn’t be surprising if she’s now acting as a medic for Terra Save. It’s the career path she decided when she graduated and joined Bravo team, taking the medic position. It wouldn’t have made sense if she just stopped. She doesn’t seem to me like a person who would let what happen to her change her, to just stop and have a normal life. She wouldn’t do that knowing she could do something, help people in her own way.
As for Billy Coen, it’s very unlikely he’ll ever appear again. He is on the run, after all, and has probably settled down somewhere where the threat of bio-weapons is a distant memory. There is just no reason for him to get involve, to appear in the games. As much as I would love it, logically I’m having a hard time figuring out where in the story he could appear, if Capcom decided to bring him back.
Maybe, he’ll appear as someone else? He’ll have to take on another identity in order to avoid being known he’s alive. But what would he be doing? I don’t think he’ll join anything like B.S.A.A. or Terra Save because I’m sure they do background check on their members. Anyone digging into his fake identity wouldn’t take much effort to find holes and whatnot in his profile.
It might be possible that he’ll want to know what happen to the guys that did what they did to the African village. I doubt he’ll go on a revenge rampage but maybe he’s curious and wants to look more into it? But that wouldn’t get him anywhere and it’s in the past. Digging into it will be raise certain people’s suspicion which he wants to avoid in the first place. He was given a second chance at a new life by Rebecca and it would make sense that he’ll live a normal life and leave his past behind, where it belongs.
Either way, Rebecca and Billy status is unknown. We can only assume that they’re still alive and doing their own thing. I remember a long time ago, at the NYC 2011 Comic-Con, a Capcom representative answered questions regarding Billy Coen status and he responded: “Billy Coen is still in the Resident Evil universe; we do have plans but nothing concrete so we can’t confirm or deny Billy Coen returning back to the franchise because anything is possible.”
I’m sure that also applies to any of the other characters that haven’t appear in a long time. I wish that Capcom gave hints or something about them just so that fans know they’re still around. What do you think Billy and Rebecca are up to? Do you think they’ll show up in the next Resident Evil games?
