Yesterday I went to Berlin Farmer’s Market with my sister and her boyfriend. It’s a place we’ve never been to and it sounded like it’ll be interesting to check out. For those that never heard about it…
“The Berlin Farmers Market was establish in 1940 by the Giberson Family and is still family owned and operated three generations later. It begin as a livestock and produce auction and has evolved into one of the east coast’s oldest and largest markets. The indoor market now boasts approximately 150,000 square feet of temperature controlled shopping, with over 85 stores with discount prices and something for everyone. Some of the features include an old fashioned butcher shop, produce, candy, floor coverings, furniture, jewelry, footwear, leather goods, automotive supplies, and brand name clothing for the entire family, just to name a few.” (to read more of the history click HERE)
There’s also an outdoor flea market that’s held every Saturday and Sunday. We happen to go there on a Saturday but it’s a long car ride to get there so we didn’t see everything. Some of the outdoor vendors had packed up and left, while others were starting to pack up their items because it ends at 4:00 pm. It made us realize that we should have left early and plan the trip a little better. It’s important to bring hats because the sun will be baring down at your head and cash because most of the vendors prefer that (and some won’t accept credit cards).
It’s not a bad place to explore and it’s good to kill time, but most of the items they sell could easily be found online for a better price. I’ll recommend it for people who are looking for antique stuff, furniture, possibly jewelry, etc. basically for unique items that are hard to come by in stores and online. You just have to make sure to barter for items that are overprice, especially for those that aren’t in the best condition.
