I would have wrote about this sooner but I got sick and I had to put it on hold until I felt better (and in a better mood) to write about the convention. This is going to be about my experience, thoughts and review on it.
The convention starts at 9:00 AM but things don’t get interesting in it until 10:00 AM. So we all decided to meet up at 9:30 since we all knew it wouldn’t take that long for us to get there, especially if everything goes right. When our train came we got in but it didn’t move for some reason. We notice that there were some maintenance workers checking the train and the tracks. Then our train moved forward, back to the station and we were all told to get off of it. We all frown and left our seats and had to wait 20 minutes or so for another train.
For some people the April Fool’s day was starting off badly. When the next train finally came we got on it and manage to get to Hoboken around 10:30 AM. We missed the beginning parts of some panels but at least we didn’t miss it completely. When we were there our group split, going into our own ways. My friend and I went straight towards the Dealer’s Room for three reasons. 1) It was open. 2) There wasn’t any panels we wanted to go to. 3) From previous experience we learned it’s best to see everything they have and then buy whatever catches our interest. That way, we get it out of the way and we won’t have to worry about the items going out of stock.
Of course my friend and I underestimate how long we’ll be wondering around the Dealer’s Room. She wanted to go to HetaMUN Session III (Hetalia Mock U.N.) which started at 1:00 PM. We ended up missing it because we were hungry and went to lunch at a Chinese Restaurant. Did I mention that it started to rain as well? Some people were unlucky because they didn’t bring umbrellas. Even more so if they are cosplaying.
Anyway, to make this long experience short. We went back to the Dealer’s Room because my friend wanted to do a commission. Once that was over with we wanted to stay for Uncle Yo but we had no idea when our group wanted to leave or stay for it. We missed it and decided we’ll just go home since it was raining, cold and we were all tired.
In the end I learned that the convention didn’t really have anything that interested me. There were some panels I would have liked to maybe checked out but otherwise I wouldn’t be upset about not going to it. I feel like there’s a huge different from when it first started out to now. It’s not because it’s grown in con goers but because it’s lacking that excitement, that OMG I MUST GO TO THESE PANELS! or I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO, EVERYTHING SOUNDS AWESOME.
If I was going alone I would have been so bored and lonely. I don’t think this convention would be all that great if a person didn’t have friends to go with or know people that were going to it. I also noticed there’s no C.R.A.Z.Y.O.T.A.K.U. this year either. I want to know why or if there’s any other way to do something similar? Meh, either way I can tell CPAC is lacking something and whatever it is, it’s increasing each year now.
Hopefully, next year they’ll bring back the excitement by adding some new things to it.
