People should be allow to cosplay as whoever they want. If they want to cosplay as a tall character even though they are short or vice versa then let them. If they’re plus-sized and cosplaying as a lithe character then let them. If they are thin like a stick and cosplaying a muscular character then let them. If they want to cosplay as a male character even though they’re female then let them.
If a cosplayer wants to cosplay a character who’s skin tone is different then theirs, then let them. If the cosplayer isn’t the same nationality as the character it shouldn’t matter. If a guy wants to cosplay as a female character then let them.
I’m sure each and every cosplayer will try and make it work somehow. A person can’t physically look exactly like the character but they can try. All it takes is the right wig, makeup, and cosplay. I’ve seen it happen where a person looks nothing similar but after they transform themselves they resemble very much like the character.
Cosplaying isn’t a exclusive thing. It’s open for any ages, any groups and any type of people. No one should be discouraging anyone from cosplaying just because they don’t look like the character.
I’m a girl, wear glasses and very short but that has never stopped me from cosplaying as Kisuke Urahara when I did. He’s the complete opposite of me: blonde, tall, no glasses, and manly. But I still manage to pull it off. I pretty much looked like a chibi (basically a mini) version of him. I might not have been the right gender, height and so on but I still did a great job on it.
