We were walking through the city, my friends and I. We had been having a wonderful night so far. We were just walking along, laughing and enjoying each others company, when I stopped at the gate to the castle. A light shone brilliantly from this castle, and with it came a warm radiance that seemed to wash everything away. All the worries, the sorrows, the pains; they just melted away. I thought I could see someone inside, but as I dared to look closer, I felt a tug on my arm. Turning my head, I saw that it was one of my friends. When I looked through the gate, the person I thought I saw was no longer there.
"What is that light?" I asked my friend.
"Oh, that's just God; don't worry about him. Come on, let's go." came his reply. He led me back to the others and we continued on. Despite my attempts to the contrary, I could not stop thinking about the light. Before I knew it, my friends had disappeared and I was surrounded by darkness. Scared, I began to run forward until I hit a wall that I could not see. When I turned around, there was another, and one on either side. I felt imprisoned in a box. I crouched down and began to cry. Finally, I cried out for help, but nothing answered. Then, just I thought there was no hope, a drop of blood ran down the wall. When it hit the ground, a crack appeared and it began to get bigger until the walls crumbled and a great light shone through. Again, I was overcome by the radiance and the warmth. A reached out to me and helped me through.
"I have given my life for you. These walls shall not keep us apart." came a voice. I looked at the owner of the hand and saw that it was the person from the gate. I turned to the light, confused.
"I have nothing to give in return."
"I only ask one thing of you: willing obedience. Keep me in all your ways. Put me first and heed my words, and no harm shall come before you. Your burdens will be mine to bear, and your pain shall be no more. Your sorrows shall melt away and your worries shall be no more."
I nodded and took the hand of the person next to me; the one who gave up his life. Together, we walked into the light, and I have never looked back.
