In a magical world such as the Harry Potter one, it's no surprise to see that the foods and drinks are just as interesting and unique. So when you're a Harry Potter fan at some point you'll wonder about the delicious-sounding foods Harry eats; how they look and taste like.
In the Harry Potter books, fans come across butterbeer a lot which happens to be the most search for recipe online. It doesn't truly exist but many hope that someone out there created a recipe that comes close to matching the drink in the book. So far the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida reveal their butterbeer which has become their most popular food item.
Butterbeer in the books appears to have an inebriating effect, and some older online recipes include butterscotch schnapps, but the Universal version is nonalcoholic. Even so, the version sold at The Wizarding World was tasted and approved by Rowling herself. If it's approve by her then that means it comes close to what she imagine butterbeer tastes like.
Universal will not release its butterbeer recipe, but that doesn't mean you can't try making it yourself. I search online and found a butterbeer recipe on Fox News. Now this is only one out of thousand of other butterbeer recipes online. If this doesn't match your taste don't hesitant to look for other versions that might appeal better to your taste buds (or what you imagine butterbeer would really taste like).
Butterbeer Recipe
Start to finish: 1 hour Servings: 4
Ingredients:
1 cup light or dark brown sugar 2 tablespoons water 6 tablespoon butter ½ teaspoon cider vinegar ½ teaspoon salt ¾ cup heavy cream, divided ½ teaspoon rum extract Four 12-ounce bottles cream soda
Instructions:
In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the brown sugar and water. Bring to a gentle boil and cook, stirring often, until the mixture reads 240 F on a candy thermometer.
Stir in the butter, salt, vinegar and ¼ heavy cream. Set aside to cool to room temperature.
Once the mixture has cooled, stir in the rum extract.
In a medium bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of the brown sugar mixture and the remaining ½ cup of heavy cream. Use an electric mixer to beat until just thickened, but not completely whipped, about 2 to 3 minutes.
To serve, divide the brown sugar mixture between 4 tall glasses (about ¼ cup for each glass). Add ¼ cup cream soda to each glass, then stir to combine. Fill each glass nearly to the top with additional cream soda, then spoon the whipped topping over each.
