I just saw the largest flop of a movie in the history of cinema. This movie was said to have single-hand-idly destroyed a production company as the critics ran gagging from the theater. This movie was Michael Cimino's notorious "Heaven's Gate." And, My God, was it dull. Apart from being needlessly slow, long (4 1/2 hours!!!), and pointless with it's scenes, the movie lacks the most important thing a movie should have: an actual plot/story. As far as I could tell this movie had none. The sad part is how obviously everyone (except for writer/director Cimino) is trying their best to make a good movie. The cinematography is breathtaking and the acting is convincing when Cimino allows the characters to speak, which, unfortunately, is not nearly often enough to tell a story. Much like NBC's attempt to show football without announcers to tell you what's going on, Cimino attempts to tell a story without actually telling it. Like NBC, he failed miserably.
