"It's a long life, better pinch yourself Get your face together, better roll along It's a long life, better pinch yourself Put your face together, better stand up straight It's a long life only one last chance Couldn't get much better, do you wanna dance? It's a good life, better pinch yourself Is it impossible? Is it impossible?"
Sing it, Sufjan. Sing it loud and clear. Oh, how I wish I could see him live! Some day, I swear! Sufjan Stevens and Barefoot Truth. And maybe even Dave Matthews Band. Gosh, I'm addicted to music.
Anyway.
I got into a bit of a discussion today. About the book Man's Search For Meaning. I love that book. I just love it. And it's referenced in one of my other favorite books of all time, A Million Miles in a Thousand Years. We were talking about our different stresses in P.F.R., and someone brought up the fact that stress can be caused by disasters. Disaster, indeed. I can't even imagine being forced into Auschwitz or any other concentration camp in the Holocaust. It's interesting how Frankl continues his psychological studies in the camp and uses his experiences in his development of logotherapy. It's amazing how prisoners like Frankl were able to survive in the camp while many other prisoners around them were dying, either at the hands of the Nazi soldiers or by committing suicide. How they were able to escape to some part of their minds, some part where the SS could not intrude. I can't imagine what sort of mindset that would take. And what of my own stresses? Aren't they nothing compared to what those people went through? Perhaps stress is relative. I've never experienced anything remotely close to what Holocaust survivors, as well as anyone in the concentration camps, went through, and so I am stuck with what now seem like petty stresses. I can't see how I could complain. Thus, I don't. At least, I try hard not to.
"I see we're all veterans with battle scars to show, so come get your purple heart now that you know. But no one knows the enemy. He uses you and he uses me in a struggle of friendly fire makin' it hard to see."
I love those lyrics. I wish I knew which song they're from or who that song is by. EDIT: Found who that song is by! Joshua Sturgeon! The song's name is "Clarity". It's simply amazing. <3
Alas. I will leave you with this. It is my current mantra, in a way.
Like him, like me-- together free.
And one last, lovely lyric.
"Like a father to impress Like a mother's mourning dress If we ever make a mess I'll do anything for you"
