I couldn’t feel
The pounding
Of the water on my back
Nor could I taste the bitter drops
I could never taste
The undissolved grain of salt
On ones tongue
I once had no senses
My eyes would blossom open
But I would see nothing
But a faded image of a lone shadow
Reflected in the rippling water
I would feel lost
Alone and insecure
I stood alone in the stillness
And pouring rain
I had no protection from
This brutal storm blowing through
Me, alone, with only the wind brushing by
On this oh so cold afternoon
I never knew what it was like
To hear a heart pound with vast happiness
Nor did I know
It could flutter and float around with such joy
I began to give up hope
Once the shadows started to fade
Everything seemed to dissipate into one
Dark, black hole
As I soon began to believe all hope was lost
I took one last look into the settling water
This time I saw you, me, hand in hand
Forever, together, to always be one shadow
Your gentle touch
Suddenly brought my senses to life
They’ve been revived
Now I know what it all feels like
