TROUBLE NAMING SOME CHARACTERS >:c help?
Okay, so.
I got this idea while watching "A Year Without a Santa Claus" (don't judge me xD). And it involves a Heat Miser-ish character and a Snow Miser-ish character. (This'll probably be some kind of short story or something, so.)
And I wasn't sure what to name them- there's some lore and whatnot about the Holly King and the Oak King, I think? And they kind of represent summer and winter. So I didn't want to use plants, so I went with birds, since birds are pretty and different ones are out in different seasons.
I have the Heron and the Blue Jay. Heron = summer, Blue Jay = winter.
But- two things.

1) I need something like "The Holly King"- "The (insert bird) (insert king/lord/other address)". And I'm having trouble choosing. I don't want them to be named Heron and Blue Jay, because that sounds like Native American lore and I don't want the reader getting the idea that these guys actually look like birds or anything- that aside, I also want them to have actual names, too. So something like The Heron King, The Heron Lord- I'm not sure.

2) I'm also not sure whether to have the winter deity dude named The Blue Jay ___ or The Jay ____. I think 'Jay' sounds better, yes/no?

I also want a third entity that's kind of neutral to represent the more mild months. And he just kind of smirks and shakes his head while the other two are at each other's throats. Is there a bird that's only around in milder months, but not specific only to spring or only to fall? Sparrows or something? Him I might actually name after his bird to show that he's not royal- I plan for him to be lower in status but the more level headed and peaceful and whatnot of the three.

And I'm also having trouble picking actual names for the two guys. I'm thinking the Heron guy's name Samhradh is and the Jay guy's name is Geimhreadh, but those mean, respectively, 'summer' and 'winter'- is that too corny? Then again, that happens a lot in myth, where the names of certain figures are basically exactly what they represent... I dunno.

I'll come back and offer more later (I'm supposed to be doing homework right now), but here are two links that might help you.
Heron
Blue Jay

As for the second question, I suggest a sparrow (what I'd see as low-ranked, neutral and around most of the year), finch (the same), or (my personal favorite) an owl. As far as I know, they are around all seasons, represent wisdom. And as I know, wisdom is part knowing what fights to fight and when to stay quiet. Am I making sense?

You're always so wonderful when I have these rough ideas that need working out. xD whenever I have a journal entry along these lines I silently hope you'll come help me.

So yeah, those links are great, thanks so much! Totally going to help with the personalities of these two.

Your logic with the sparrow was mine too, actually. A cute little bird without much of an intimidating streak, kind of humble, etc.
I was looking at the finches too, but I kind of like Sparrow better as a name than Finch, and since they're both little, humble birds, something silly and small like that kind of tips my decision. xD
My only issue with the owl is that they're predatory birds, you know? I like the idea of wisdom a lot. But the carnivorous aspect is a little contrary to what I'd been thinking. P: and it would imply kind of a more solemn sort of character- a silently disapproving adviser-type. I'm looking for a more... sprightly, nimble, kind of mischievous feel to the third party. So he knows to stay out of the fights but he's also highly amused by the other two and their antics and kind of pulls a "nyah-nyah" kind of thing in the end, since ultimately, more months fall under his jurisdiction than theirs, and he's kind of smirky and petulant about it without openly picking fights... does that make sense? Dx

Ah, really? That means so much to me. ><

I see what you mean with the owl. I had been thinking one of those little fluffy owls, but they are hunters too. I think a sparrow is your best bet. This link talks about their qualities, and I think they could fit what you're looking for.
