Creative cultures.
So in Myth, we draw a lot of parallels to modern media, beliefs, and culture.
And I've come to realize that most cultures' creativity seems to have died out.
Look at the Baltic countries. They created Norse myth, the Nibelung, the Svartalfar, the Aesir and Vanir- they created this entire pantheon and world, essentially, and what have they done lately?
What about Greece and Italy? Their myths are some of the most well known; their creativity continued on into the Renaissance; but lately, what have they done?
Japan has remained as creative as it used to be, I think. Russia still has a touch of it. Germany's weird, because their focus has totally shifted to music, but it's highly creative music, so.
It's funny too how people seem to have just forgotten about mythology. These deities were thought to be real and now barely anyone takes them seriously.
Humans are weird.

Those deities were their gods, but today we have different religions and gods, so our focus keeps other myths alive (those involving religions). Look at how high of a seller the bible is, the focus has just switched.

I also think that with the advancement of science, technology and what not, we feel we know everything. All of the myths were to explain how things in their worlds worked. Now that we seems to "know everything", we have no need for the old ways. Myths are mostly kept alive through some traditions and people who take a study of them.

My friend and I were talking about Greek myths. I learned that in those times, to be considered a real man, a guy must prove himself in battle, and pleasure many women and men. Then we got talking about how Zeus is a total man-whore and I discovered Hera was his older sister (and I learned about some king who chopped up his son to give to the gods). Those Greeks came up with some pretty kinky stuff, if you ask me. Interesting, but kinky.

Oh, Japan. The culture never ceases to amaze me. Which reminds me, I should be working on my paper and preparing for my two essay tests right now. One of them is in history (hence the Japanese).
