Chapter Six: Secrets revealed/ Summer 25th
Elli let out a heavy sigh as she laid on her desk. The summer heat was beginning to get to her as she thought of Adam. She remembered as he came to the town only a few months ago. The door made a familiar ringing noise as Elli lifted her head. There stood Adam in his usual outfit, except his pants were more rolled up. His skin shimmered slightly as he wiped his forehead. Apparently, he had been working in the field not too long before her came here. He waved and smiled at Elli as he walked into Trent’s office and received his payment.
Adam headed to Elli’s desk as she sorted through the patient’s medical lists. He leaned on her desk as he had a warm grin on his face as Elli ignored it and continued to sort through the files. “Hey Elli.” “Hi Adam.” Adam stood up straight as Elli put away the files and began to fill out a prescription sheet. “Um… Elli…” Elli looked up at Adam as she noticed his face was a light red. “W-Would… you like to… you know… Go with me to the Fireworks Festival tomorrow?” He moved his fingers around forming a circle in the air as his face got redder. Elli blushed slightly and smiled. “Um… Sure I guess…” Adam slowly began to have a smile grow across his face as he rubbed the back of his head. “Great! Well then I’ll stop by your house around 5ish, sound good?” Elli nodded as Adam’s face now beamed with happiness. He waved as he ran out the door. Elli laughed as she felt her face still slightly warm.
The next morning, Elli was over excited. She wasn’t sure if it was because of the festival or if it was because she was going with Adam. She practically leaped out of bed and opened her wardrobe. She looked for some nice looking shorts and a spaghetti strap. She then went and took a shower so she would at least smell decent for her date with… wait… did she just think date?! She blushed as she covered her mouth. She moved the hair from her face as she tried to relax. “I shouldn’t worry about it too much…” She smiled as she continued to get ready.
Later that Evening
Elli sat in a seat near the door as she gripped the lower part of her shorts. She started to get a little nervous as she let out a small sigh. The door then rang as she looked up to her left. There was Adam, dressed in some jeans and a short sleeved shirt. His face went red as he turned away. Elli got worried. “Are you alright?” She began to stand up as Adam held out a bouquet or sunflowers. “T-These are for you…” Elli blushed as she smiled and laughed. “These are lovely! Thank you Adam! Let me set them in some water.” Elli went to the back of the clinic and brought back a vase full of flowers and set it on her desk.
Adam headed out the door as he held it open for Elli. Elli followed him as she put up the ‘closed’ sign in the clinic window as she and Adam headed towards the beach. “So um… How are you?” Adam seemed to be really nervous and tense as he held his hands in his pockets and looked away and tried to avoid eye contact. Elli got a little worried about him as they drew near to the beach. “I’m pretty good actually. I was excited for tonight.” Adam looked at her with his almost beat red face. “Yeah… Me too…” They soon stood at the beach. The sun began to set across the ocean as the villagers were setting up spots on the beach. It seemed that almost everyone was here with someone else of the opposite gender. Elli looked at Adam as he itched the side of his cheek and stared at the ground. “I-I’ll go to our spots…” Adam headed off as Elli walked on the beach.
It felt weird to have the sand go through her toes. Ann waved her hand at Elli as she had her hand intertwined with Cliff’s. Cliff blushed red as Elli approached them. “Hey Elli!! I haven’t seen you in forever!” Elli chuckled. “I know. Work has been keeping me so busy.” Ann and Elli laughed as Cliff looked away and continued to blush. Elli then felt a tap on her shoulder. It was Trent. He waved at Ann and Cliff as Elli’s face grew a faint red. “D-Doctor!” Trent smiled. “Hello Elli. What brings you here?” Trent pulled Elli away from Anna and Cliff. Elli waved at them as she walked away with the doctor. “I came here with Adam.” Trent then grew a small frown on his face. “Oh… I see…” Elli was about to say something as Adam came running up to Elli. “Hey Elli! I got a great spot!” Adam then grabbed Elli’s hand as she blushed. “Hi Doctor Trent!” Trent nodded at Adam as Elli waved, and headed to the pier.
Adam sat down at the end of the pier as Elli rested beside him and hugged her knees. “This is one of the best views I could find.” Adam smiled and laughed. Elli grew a small smile as she thought of how Adam was acting like a little child. The sun then went down as everyone’s chatter began to silence. Everyone then looked up in the sky as the fireworks began to hiss and crash across the sky. ‘Ooo’s’ and ‘Aah’s’ could be heard as the fireworks showed brilliant colors of red, blue, and yellow. Elli moved the hair from her face as she continued to watch the sky be lit up, almost like a Christmas tree. She then thought she heard Adam talking then he said her name. She turned and looked at him as he leaned forward and kissed her lips.
Elli’s heart began to race as she sat there with Adam, continuing to kiss her. Why wasn’t she moving?! Why wasn’t she rejecting his kiss?! She then began to close her eyes as Adam stroked her hair lightly out of her face. The fireworks began to become hazy as the sound of the waves began to rise over the crashing and booming of the fireworks. Adam then began to withdrawal from the kiss as Elli opened her eyes once again. She then turned her face as she felt it burning. She covered her face slightly and shook her head as Adam stood up. “Um… I guess I’ll walk you home…” Elli turned her head as Adam stuck out his hand at Elli. She gripped his hand as he helped her up.
On the way home, the area was very heavy and awkward. Elli noticed Adam’s hand was waving at his side as they walked. Her face grew red as she reached for it and touched his warm hand. She was expecting him to reject it, but instead, she felt his warm hand begin to intertwine with hers. The air then became lighter as they continued to walk, then Adam broke the silence. “The fireworks were really pretty.” “Yeah…” Adam then looked at Elli. “Hey Elli… I really like you… and… I’d like to be more than just friends.” Elli felt her face grow warm again as they reached her home. “Um… Let me think about it…” She quickly got inside of the clinic as she covered her mouth again. Did what just happen, real? She felt her heart race as she headed up stairs.
