Sakir POV:
It was a clear day when we packed up the tents and went our separate ways. It was as if the weather was mocking us, mocking our separation. I hugged Jade tightly and her cold, hard arms crushed me back. There were slight blood smudges at the corners of her eyes and I wiped them away. "You can't do that Jade..." I could see all her worry in her eyes, worry that I would get harmed or Jasper would and I would rush into save him. She was also worried about being a good queen, convincing other vampires to accept something even she didn't completely accept. The rift between vampires and werewolves had been around for centuries, it was going to take a lot to forget the bloodshed and ill feelings for both parties.
I leaned my forehead on her shoulder, which required me to bend slightly into an uncomfortable position, "Jade... I know you, you can convince anyone of anything if you truly believe it yourself. I've never seen such a hardass in my entire life." She laughed at that, "Right back at you, don't let those vampires intimidate you in Notginhsae (N-awt-guh-in-say)." I picked my head up and nodded, "Of course not."
Darius bowed his head to me and smiled, "Don't worry, Jasper and I will stay in contact." I was still in the dark to how they did that but I guess I didn't need to know how they did that.
Jasper waved goodbye to Jade after speaking in a low voice to Darius as I went to stack the surprisingly small bundle of our tent and the small package that contained my clothes and everything else. I saw Jade and Kourne and Triugen and Darius practically floating over the tall grass, they were off at a brisk run, it amazed me how much stamina a vampire had, especially when they just took off like that. I morphed into my wolf form, things strapped securely to my back. I looked over at Jasper who shook his head, "Sakir, we're going to travel my way, it's less noticeable.... your coat is too striking in the dark forests around Notginhsae."
I morphed back and raised an eyebrow, "How do you travel?" He smiled and suddenly I was being hoisted onto his back, I started to protest until I realized we were swiftly hurtling through the air, way above the trees. I gave a little squeak and Jasper laughed, "Remember when I told you I could jump really high it was like flying? I wasn't lying."
I clutched his back and closed my eyes, I was scared to death, this was much worse than an airplane, much much worse. After about 10 minutes we crashed through some light tree cover and Jasper bounced off the ground and even higher into the air than before. I felt slightly sick to my stomach, the sudden rush to the ground thoroughly freaking me out. He laughed again, "Don't worry, the time gets longer and longer between time I have to hit the ground the more I jump."
He was true to his word, but the plummets were even worse from a higher distance off the ground. We 'bounced' around 10 times that day and as the sun started to set he came to a final landing. I stumbled off his back and effectively threw up behind a tree. His eyebrows furrowed and he handed me a piece of cloth and some water. I sat down shakily and he handed me some bread that I had packed. I took a bite, slowly chewing it. Now that we weren't jumping I was ok, but I was sure not to eat anything the next morning for the queasiness I knew was coming.
I closed my eyes and leaned back against one of the many trees that surrounded us, "How many more days until we get there."
Jasper lighted a small fire and sat down opposite me, "Probably another couple days." I made a face, "I don't like your way of traveling.. at all." He shrugged, "You'll get used to it... imagine how I took to it at first, I nearly broke myself a couple times because I didn't know how to land." I smiled, "I hope you're right." I tried to imagine early settlers reacting to a random flying person and that only increased my smile.
Jasper looked up at the night sky and I followed his gaze, the tree cover was slight so I could see the great smattering of stars in the dark. He looked over at me, I had finished a hunk of bread, a small apple, and drank a good bit of water. I threw the small apple core quite a distance and when I turned back, Jasper was standing up, extinguishing the fire. I raised an eyebrow. He smiled, "Are you really all that tired?"
I shook my head, all I did was sit on his back all day. He pointed in the direction we were traveling, "I figured we're far enough away that we could travel on foot, er rather paws for you."
I morphed into a giant white wolf and tilted my head towards the pack which Jasper secured onto my back. I looked at him with big green eyes, You can ride on my back, I know you're tired. He looked it too. His eyes were slightly cloudy and he wasn't standing as perfectly straight and strong as he usually was. Jasper started to protest but I showed him my teeth quickly and he sighed, climbing onto my back as if he was born to do it.
Damn vampires and their being good at practically everything. I took off in a run and I felt Jasper wrap his hands in the fur at the nape of my neck. The forest was getting rather dense and I had to be careful to dodge large trees. Lay low, I don't want your head to get taken off by any low branches. He laughed and I felt his torso lay on my back, his head still looking ahead at where we were going. He gave a slight pat on my left shoulder, "Start going this way slightly."
I gave a slight nod of my wolf head and directed myself somewhat to the left. I ran through the night in that direction and in the morning I slowed to a walk, searching for a clear spot for Jasper to jump out of. I was tired, there was no denying it, my eyelids started to droop and as I morphed out of my wolf form, Jasper sprung off my back. He looked at me and kissed my forehead, "C'mon you can sleep on my back." I shook my head and gave a weak laugh, "Are you kidding?" He hoisted me onto his back despite my not-well-thought-out protests, which consisted of giving him a weak shove and groaning. He flew into the air and I felt my stomach drop. I clung onto his back and closed my eyes, he was right, after the first two jumps I had fallen asleep in the hour span we were up in the air. The plummets always brought me to though and Jasper probably noticed as my grip on his back increased greatly.
After a few days of this we had arrived very close to Notginhsae. Jasper recommended we go on foot the rest of the way. We both looked worn out, my clothes were slightly dirty and torn from crashing through trees as were Jasper's. My hair was knotted and needed washing while Jaspers could use a little de-twigging. I had no shoes on, my bare feet feeling just how old the soil was under my feet. This was a place that had been around for a while, if the size of the trees weren't enough of an indication. It was almost like meeting the Forest spirit, but this place felt much longer inhabited.
Suddenly, there was an abrupt break in the trees and a giant castle loomed before us. It was covered in vines, it may have even been constructed of vines. Lesser buildings surrounded it, but lesser didn't mean poor, the buildings surrounding the castle were carved of the finest stone and marble, vines climbing the walls, but not enveloping the buildings. I assumed they were vampire houses, they were nothing like the modern mansion Jade had stayed in while I received my training, and I assumed Darius owned. They looked old, but they were just as grand and enormous. My mouth was hanging open slightly as two small vampires approached us, they had clear, bright eyes and the softest looking hair. They didn't speak, just flashed their shiny, fanged teeth in what I guessed was a smile and took our hands, leading us into the city. I looked at Jasper who regarded the vampires with slight caution and then I asked in a whisper, "Where are they taking us..."
