So I've been working on that superhero story I mentioned a while ago on and off since... since I mentioned it. xD
And I have a superhero, a superhero/villain (he's so much fun, because even I don't know what he's going to be doing from story to story- he could either be saving kittens from trees or setting an orphanage on fire...), and a bunch of villain-villains. Just bad dudes.
But the superhero was making me think, earlier. The public knows his secret identity- which obviously means it's not very secret anymore. But he's not the only superhero to be in such a situation- for instance, no one in the Fantastic Four hid their true identities. But they still wear costumes.
Q: What is the point of wearing a costume if everyone knows your secret identity?
In my hero's case, part of what makes him a hero is that he has CIPA, which is a genetic mutation in which the one who has it can't feel pain, heat or cold, and can't sweat. They tend to get really overheated. I'm not even making this up, so shush. xD It's real. Go do some Googlin' if you don't believe me.
Anyway. He needs to wear something lightweight or he'll seriously pass out. Sweating keeps you cool- if you can't do it, you can't stay cool, and fighting crime gets one all hot and sweaty... yeah. He could go so far past his breaking point and not even know it. I'm pretty sure he could die of heat stroke. o_O
So he needs a special crime-fighting outfit or else he'll be in some serious shizz. The mask isn't entirely necessary, but a lot of the villains he fights aren't exactly up on the news, so it can't exactly hurt to wear one.
But like... why bother if everyone knows who you are anyway? Unless the costume gives you a power, boosts a power you already have or conceals an identity no one knows, then why?
