Alkaria took a bath. She didn't know why, really, because she would have to survive the long, long, ride to Arane castle... It was hot. She felt like she should bathe once she got there... But that was beside the point. Her maid, Beka, came up and started brushing her hair. "You're going to look so pretty, milady," she said. Karia wasn't going to get cheered up, though. She was in a state of... What? Shock, perhaps? Depression? She didn't want to get married. She wasn't ready... She'd never seen males as anything but friends, companions. And she was sure all of the other girls would steal the show... She didn't try to blend into the wall, but sometimes she couldn't help it. "What if he hates me?"
Beka brought over Karia's favorite dress, which was slipped over her head. It fit perfectly. The tailors had done a wonderful job. The dark silk stood out against her skin... Perhaps it was a little much, but she liked it. The necklace was cold against her skin... It gave her goosebumps for a second before her body heat started warming it up. Karia's hair was kept simple, pulled back with a ribbon like always. Her shoes where simple, too... The last accessory to go on was a circlet. A glance in the mirror showed that she was... Pretty. She was quite emotionless, and nervous about meeting her future husband.
After a long thoughtfulness, Beka said simply, "I'm sure it'll be fine, Milady." Karia smirked. "It's not you getting married, Beka. I don't even like the idea of marriage. If he doesn't like me..." She shook her head. "Well..." said Beka expertly, "Let's find out. It's getting late." Karia looked out the window. It was late. "My brothers already left. I guess I'll join them." After a second of thought, she picked up her favorite dagger and tucked it into her sash in a way that she could reach it easily, but it didn't look like anything at all. If some assassin discovered that every royal on the continent where all having a big party... She didn't want to be a sitting duck. "Ok. Let's go."
The ride was boring, but that was to be expected. Long, long, endless clopping of hooves, lurching bench, bumping, bumping... Ugg. Why couldn't she ride her horse? It was much more her style... However, riding a horse in an expensive gown and uncomfortable corset wasn't fun at all. She chatted with Beka and occasionally glanced out the window at the wonderful scenery. It was hot, though, just as she'd imagined. But not to bad... She'd survive. The hours passed. She was going to be late, but not by much, hopefully.
Alkaria's carriage pulled up at about the same time as some other people's. So maybe she wasn't so late, after all..."Well, Beka, see you later, then..." Karia wasn't sure whether she was going to see her again, or if she'd get a new maid once she got married. She cautiously stepped out of the carrige, standing up straight and taking a slow, deep breath. Then, taking the small, ladylike steps that it had taken forever for her to learn, she walked into the palace. She'd been hoping to make a quiet entrance, but as a booming voice announced her, she felt all eyes turn in her direction. Ugg. She walked in further, looking around. The building was amazing. The people where all lovely, in their best clothes. It didn't take her long to find her brothers. She wanted to meet the guy she was going to marry, though she supposed she would eventually. So she walked over to the nearest window and gazed dreamily out at the gardens.
