YO, EXOTIC. You take Japanese. I assume you must know something about the geography of Japan, then. Do you know anything about the regions of Japan in the Edo Period? I've found a map of Edo Period Japan that shows cities, but like, did they have different names of the regions, or regions at all? I know that prefectures as we know them came about during the Meiji Period, which was after the Edo Period, but... Help? P:

I apologize, all we've learned is modern culture as of yet. I have a book on Japan's history though, so I'll check in the Edo period.

Off the top of my head from what little I know, I'd say there were no regions, but rather lands ruled by the Lords. I know the Lords would collect from the people on their land and have the samurai to help them protect their lands. I think the actual prefectures were established in the modern era (though don't quote me).

If you want, I can work up the nerve to ask my teacher the next class I have. She's from Japan, so she would probably know.

Thanks a lot.
I know that the prefectures came pretty recently. Like, late 1800s, early 1900s.
I'm not sure I need this information yet. P: I have city names as of the Edo Period, which is good enough for now. I might not need the information about regions at all. But it would be cool if you could ask. Just like, when the current regions came to be called what they are now, or something?
