"Kelly?"

"Yeah?"

"You love me right?"

"As a friend, of course."

Kelly turned to David only to see his gaze not meet hers. He stared far off in the distance with a blank expression.

"Why do you ask me?" Kelly questioned.

No answer.

"David? Davi-chan!" Kelly started to nudge him impatiently.

Suddenly he got up from his seat at the bench and ran towards the street where a kid was. The kid was trying to put away his fallen belongings in his backpack and didn't notice the oncoming car.

David lounged towards the boy, picking him up and tossing him on the sidewalk. As he looked back at the car, the last thing he remembered was a guy talking on his phone then noticing David.

Kelly screamed during the whole thing, but before she could reach for her friend, a breath taking scene blurred before her eyes.

5 weeks later

Dear Diary,

I visited David today at the hospital for the first time. I can't help but feel guilty to be anonymous to him but the Doctors said that he had to have surgery. They have yet to tell me anything but David said to not worry. Well I am worrying and I want to know. Tomorrow, I'm going to check on him again. Hopefully I get more details.

Kelly stopped by David's room the next day after school. He was still in the hospital bed with his leg in a brace. Concluding with what he told her yesterday, Kelly knew that he broke his leg.

"Hey Dave. Brought you flowers." Kelly teased with a bouquet in her hands.

David scoffed and adjusted himself so he could talk better to his friend. "Thanks, Kell."

Kelly smiled and sat in the chair next to his bed. "You're missing Algebra tests big time man. When will you come back?"

"Dunno." David sighed. "I don't think I ever want to come back."

"Why?"

"Kelly, look at me!" David growled.

She understood as she actually LOOKED at him for the first time. Bruises, scars and a busted leg. How'd that get there? The accident wasn't that bad...or so she believed.

"David, you're okay to me-"

"No! I don't want to be just 'okay' or anything like that. I want to be 'David'! Not 'okay'!"

Kelly held his arm lightly but firmly. "Davi-chan, be greatful. You saved a child's life for heaven's sake. And you lived. It's a gift from God."

"I may never play Football again!" David continued his complaining. "I may never land a girlfriend! I may never walk on my feet! I may-"

"Shut up!"

David looked at Kelly with an confused expression. "Kelly you have no idea-"

"The hell I do! You're complaining about stuff that's not important! I'll help you get back to shape! I'll help you on your feet. It's not like you broke your foot! Think for once! You saved someone! You're ALIVE!"

Silence. David nodded but turned his head away to avoid Kelly's eyes which showed no regret for her words.

It then came to Kelly. As the flashback repeated in her head, she remembered the conversation before the incident.

"David...I have a question."

Turning his head, he showed a level of interest. "What?"

"Those questions you asked me before the accident...what was it about?"

Remembering, David shrugged. "Nothing."

"Are you sure?"

"No."

"What is it?"

"You should know..."

"Well I don't-"

"Kelly...."

"What?"

"Remember what I said about us being together and that I was only kidding?"

Kelly laughed. She remembered the joke clearly. "Yeah, I remember. What of it?"

"Well, I wasn't."

"Wait...wha?"

"I love you, Kelly. More then a friend."

"Oh..."
