There is a jewelry commercial on the Vancouver radio station I listen to for a "Hercules knot." In it, the man buying the jewelry is her "hero." somehow this involves tieing her up with diamonds. I guess the idea is that once he's purchased her the jewelry, she isn't allowed to leave him. I'm not seeing this as heroic. (I have nothing against consensual bondage or power exchange situations that please both parties, but it creeps me the hell out when they mix prostitution, slavery, and power exchange in a way that implies the woman has no say. Seriously, the imagery is very creepy on that commercial). Again, I'm not seeing how using jewelry to force a woman to stay is romantic or heroic, but then, I'm not the target audience, I suppose.
