The Avatar
--On December 2nd, 2012, the citizens of Denver began to fall very ill from what doctors originally thought was the Black Plague, but later on they discovered that the disease had a few subtle differences, and the germ itself looked much different. For instance, the eyes of the infected host were always fully dilated, and the skin turned slightly pale.
--About three weeks after the first person was infected, is when the first person died. When the deaths started, they didn't stop. Everyone seemed to be dying in extremely close increments of time, dying quick. The population dropped dramatically. This scared many people in the city, so they started to self-evacuate only two days after the deaths started. This is the exact opposite of what the government had in mind. Within six hours of the city's self-evacuation, the army quarantined the city. Nobody could come or go. Tests weren't run to see if you carried the disease, you just couldn't leave. Nobody had been cured or saved, so the government figured that if someone got out with the disease not being found then it could cause something much worse than an epidemic. The people that had already left the city were tracked down and either returned to the city or killed if they resisted.
--As in any quarantine situation, there was much rioting and anarchy. What the government didn't know, is that one of the most extremist, violent anarchist groups was secretly located in Denver. The group was called 'Dark Democracy', which was of course supposed to be a scare tactic saying that democracy is bad. They were planning a 'counter attack' on the governments quarantine, which they succeeded in doing. Dark Democracy somehow had gotten a hold of some very dangerous and illegal weaponry. Even some heavily armored military vehicles were in the mix. They planned to attack the seemingly least entrenched exit of the city. They attempted to get as close as possible to the exit without being noticed by the army, then hid in the buildings until the most crowded time of day... so that they could use the civilians as... 'cover'. They threw explosives and charged through the front lines, but the majority of the soldiers seemed to be in the back, and they were eventually wiped out... but they hadn't failed yet.
--The next day is when they succeeded. This is the day when it all really started. They day the dead rose. When the army finally realized what was going on, they started to get things a little more under control. Some soldiers thought it was easier just to shoot the rotten people instead of arguing with the normal ones. The problem was that they forgot about the anarchists. They had disposed of their bodies outside the city, so when they began to walk again, the army became surrounded. The zombies then easily annihilated the military forces. The infection began to spread as the zombies started to scatter in all directions.
--One among the zombies was very special. You see, the 'common' zombie was slow and stupid, but this one was the exact opposite. He was about twice the speed of a normal man, extremely athletic, and extremely smart... and his left arm.... It had gotten a more evolved part of the virus which was much larger and stronger, more of a bug than a germ. It grew in his arm and grew the arm itself. It was a very strong virus, and is the reason why he 'stayed' smart, instead of becoming mindless. If he wanted to, he could have easily destroyed the military forces, but he didn't care. This virus had ruined everything. He had a life before this thing came along. He had an amazing girlfriend, a great job, and an awesome apartment and neighborhood, and a great group of friends. He sat high on the Wells Fargo Center and watch the sun set and remember his loved one. He would hold the only remaining thing he had left to remind him of her... her arm. He would never set it down and never let anything or anyone touch it. Zombies would sometimes try to get at it and he would consume them with his mutated arm. It would give him a small amount of nutrition, but not enough, so every once in a while he would have to consume humans... even though he didn't want to. It felt to him as if just any normal person were eating another. It was sickening. He didn't throw up though, because part of him didn't find it sickening at all, part of him saw it as simply eating normal food. He did usually cry after wards. He eventually decided to join the zombies. He decided he want to exterminate the humans so that he didn't ever have to think about them again. He would use his loved one's arm to attract zombies so that they would follow him. They eventually just thought that if they followed him, they would gain food. He amassed an army and traversed the land 'devouring' entire cities... he was completing his mission...... but he still felt so alone. After all the humans were eventually wiped out, he wondered,
--"What now?".... He just decided to kill all the zombies.
--Eventually he completed that... all the animals? He killed everything that moved... but... nothing ever changed... nothing ever got better. He wondered what day it was... what year, month.... How many Christmases had passed? How old was he now? How old was he when this started? He looked down at his normal hand... her arm was gone. Her. That was the only thing he remembered... but not anything about her. He couldn't remember the humans, he couldn't remember happiness... but he couldn't forget that he was happy. He wanted to me happy again so bad. He wanted to remember happiness. He fell to his knees in the middle of the empty field which he felt so lost in. He didn't know what to do. There wasn't anything. He had killed everything there was, and now there wasn't anything. He created a circle with one of his claws about one thousand feet in diameter. At the edge of the circle all the way around there was nothing to see in all directions except empty field. He stayed in that circle for the rest of eternity. He figured he should just leave the world alone so he couldn't make it any worse.
