I FOUND SAILOR MOON ON YOUTUBE!!
Now I just have to watch all 166 episodes I've found. sweatdrop And that's still missing an entire season.
When I watched it on Cartoon Network, there was a marathon on a Saturday, but my mom said I couldn't stay inside all day to watch it and, as a result, I never got to see the end of Sailor Moon R. And that bugged the hell out of me for ten years. Yay for the internet and people who are ready and willing to break copyright laws!!! mrgreen
You know, when I first watched it at about eight years old, I didn't realize how many child/adult relationships there were. I mean the main couple is between a college student and a fourteen year old middle school student. But I guess you can say that Mamoru (Darien) is only eighteen/nineteen and since Usagi (Serena) is closer to fifteen, they're protected by the five-year-rule and, therefore, Mamoru can't really be arrested or anything... Still, there's the relationship between Naru (Molly) and Nephrite, which is totally a Don't Stand So Close To Me situation. (For those who don't know - Don't Stand So Close To Me is a song by Sting and the Police about a teacher/student affair. It includes the lyrics "This girl is half his age." Ironically, I downloaded it after I saw it used in a Mamoru/Usagi songfic).
Life lesson number 1: Sailor Moon promotes child/jailbait molestation. But I think it rocks anyway.
And, for those of you about to jump up and protest that the age of consent in Japan is, like, thirteen, I remember watching the dubbed version a decade ago and going "Molly likes that old dude? That's weird." And that would have been fine, since they were just being faithful to the original version EXCEPT for the fact that they edited the hell out of other "questionable" material (ex: suddenly, Zoisite's a woman and Uranus and Neptune are "cousins", which is American!code for secret gay lovers. Sadly, that explains so much about my childhood.)
So, yes, kids; it's okay to date someone twice your age, as long as you're not gay. (Seriously, both DiC and FUNimation need to go die. Like, now.)
